Singer and actor Kim Jaejoong of boy band JYJ has been discharged from the Korean army Friday morning, December 30 after completing his conscription that ran for nearly two years.
Hundreds of fans from Korea, Japan, China and other countries waited for Jaejoong outside the Republic of Korea Army’s 55th Infantry Division in Yongin, Gyeonggi province to get a glimpse of the star.
Jaejoong enlisted on March 31, 2015 and served in the military for 21 months as required for all able-bodied Korean men.
The hashtag “WelcomeBackJaejoong” trended worldwide on Twitter on December 30 as fans posted tweets about his return.
Outside the army camp, Jaejoong greeted fans and the media.
A day after his discharge, Jaejoong will hold a fan meeting at COEX Mall in Gangnam, Seoul to mark his return.
During his service, Jaejoong became a member of the military band and performed in many events including at the 71 Korean Liberation Concert and Gyeryong Expo Harmony Concert last August.
C-JeS Entertainment, JYJ’s agency, released Jaejoong’s album “No. X” last February.
Fellow JYJ member Yoochun is currently fulfilling his military service while Junsu is scheduled to enlist on February 9.
Jaejoong was discharged along with Super Junior’s Sungmin, who also enlisted in the military on March 31, 2015.
