From concerts, fan meetings to vacation, many K-pop and Korean stars visited the Philippines in 2016.
The year started with a bang as K-pop boy band EXO held their “EXO Planet #2 — The EXO’luxion” tour on Jan. 23 and 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Originally it was only for one night but due to demand, a second night was added.
In March, boy band BEAST flew to the country for their first fan meeting in Manila at the Araneta Coliseum. Actress Park Shin Hye also visited the country in March for a magazine pictorial and also met children in Tondo.
Korean stars Lee Min Ho and Dara came in April. Lee Min Ho held his Fun Meet in Manila and Cebu on April 2 and 3. Dara held a fan meeting at the SM City North EDSA Skydome on April 2 as endorser of a clothing line. Rainbow’s Jaekyung was in Bohol for a photo and video shoot.
In May, Girls’ Generation member Yuri went to Boracay for a photoshoot for a leisure brand.
APink arrived in the country in June and performed at the MTV Music Evolution Manila. Actor Kim Woo Bin was spotted in Manila.
The following month, boy band BTS performed for Filipino fans through their “Epilogue” concert tour on July 30.
In August, Korean singer Dean was in Manila for a promo tour. Boy band Seventeen conducted their Manila fan meet on Aug. 14 and 15 at Solaire Hotel and Casino. FT Island’s Jong-hoon and Jung Joon-young of band Drug Restaurant were also in the country.
The Korean TV music show “Show Champion” celebrated its 200th episode in September with K-pop stars BTS, VIXX, BAP, Super Junior’s Heechul, Jungmo, AOA, Astro, Sonamoo, Gugudan, and KNK. Girl group GFriend had their “L.O.L Manila Showcase” on Sept. 4. K-pop star Lee Hi held a showcase at the SM City North EDSA Skydome.
In October, the cast and crew of the “Love In The Moonlight,” led by actor Park Bogum, flew to Cebu for a vacation as incentive for the successful run of the Korean drama.
Boy band Monsta X came to the country for their first Manila fan meeting in November. In December, GOT7 returned to the country for a show.
