Defunct K-pop group 2NE1 will release a farewell song for the fans this month.
Dara, CL and Bom will issue the song “Good Bye” on Jan. 21 to wrap up their career as a group.
“2NE1 was disbanded without even saying goodbye to their fans, and through the new single, the group will express how sorry they are,” said YG Entertainment on January 6, according to Korean news site Osen.
The three reunited to record the song and film a music video less than two months after the agency announced 2NE1’s disbandment on Nov. 25 last year. Minzy, who left 2NE1 last April, did not take part in recording the song.
2NE1 disbanded without releasing a last album or song.
Fans were shocked when YG Entertainment suddenly announced last November that “after much consultation with rest of the members, YG has decided to officially disband 2NE1.”
“2NE1 has been YG’s signature girl group for the past seven years, so YG is deeply saddened to let them go. YG hereby announces that it signed a management contract with CL and Dara as solo artists after May but did not renew its contract with Bom,” the agency stated then.
A day after the announcement, Dara wrote a letter to fans to say “I’m sorry and thank you BLACKJACKS from the bottom of my heart.”
CL also wrote a letter, telling fans that “I just wanted to let you guys know that we are still here and we will always be one team, one family.”
She revealed that they tried to work things out “but it fell apart… tough times.”
“Minzy, Bom, Dara will all be doing great things on their own and I will always love and support them,” she said.
Dara and CL signed up as solo artists under YG Entertainment while Bom’s contract was not renewed.
