K-pop idol group BTS’ drawing power is no joke.
This was evident in their “2017 BTS Live Trilogy Episode III: The Wings Tour” in Manila held May 6 and 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
For two days, BTS’ Rap Monster, Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, Suga, V, and J-Hope played to sold-out crowds as thousands of Philippine ARMYs (collective name for BTS fans) and those from different countries watched the concerts to show their love for the boys.
The crowd, estimated to be between 15,000 to 20,000, was so overwhelming that the concert promoter told Bulletin Entertainment the attendance at the BTS concerts was the biggest crowd she has ever experienced among all the K-pop concerts her company has produced over the years.
BTS’ set list was a mixture of group and solo acts. They opened the concert with “Not Today,” a song from their 2017 album “You Never Walk Alone,” followed by “Am I Wrong,” “Baepsae” and “Dope.”
And the solo stages highlighted each member’s talent. Jungkook performed “Begin” while Jimin sang “Lie.” Suga had “First Love” followed by Rap Monster’s “Reflection,” V’s “Stigma,” J-Hope’s “Mama” and “Boy Meets Evil,” and Jin’s “Awake.”
Jin, V, Jungkook and Jimin teamed up for “Lost” and Suga, Rap Monster and J-Hope sang “BTS Cypher Pt. 4.”
BTS also performed “Save Me,” “I Need U,” “N.O.,” “Boy In Luv,” “Run,” “No More Dream,” “21st Century Girls,” “Blood Sweat & Tears” “Outro: Wings,” “Two! Three” and “Spring Day.”
To express their appreciation for the boys, the fans – spearheaded by BTS PH Union, Bangtan Boys PH and BTS Trans Projects – organized a banner project on the first day. During the song “Outro: Wings,” they held up banners that read, “You’re our one and only sun, the only one in the world,” part of the lyrics of the song “Run.”
From the start to the end of the concert, the arena was filled with fans’ cheers and screams, and a mesmerizing sea of lights created by BTS light sticks (a.k.a ARMY Bomb).
At the concert, BTS tried their best to speak in Tagalog as they bid fans goodbye.
“Mahal kong mga Philippine ARMY, kayo ang aming wings. Lumilipad ako dahil sa inyo. Lumilipad tayo ng buong lakas,” J-Hope said.
Jimin said he’s happy to be back in Manila.
“Na-touch ako sa inyong pagmamahal. Mami-miss ko kayo,” he said.
Suga told fans, “Salamat sa pagbigay ng magandang alaala ulit.”
“ARMY, na-miss nin’yo ba kami? Salamat sa pagpunta. Magkita tayo muli. Salamat,” said Rap Monster.
V regretted that “ang bilis ng oras. Sana hindi matapos itong concert. Kayo din ba? Kayo din ba? Maraming salamat sa pagpunta. Mahal ko kayo.”
“Gusto ko madalas na tayo magkita,” Jungkook said. “Huwag nin’yong kalimutan na lagi tayong magkasama kahit malayo tayo. Maraming salamat. Mahal ko kayo.”
Jin told the crowd that “masaya ako na kasama ko ang ARMY. Parang nawa’y… Philippine ARMY! Gigil niyo si iko (ako). Mahal ko kayo.”
“Now it’s time to end this trilogy. But we’re still together, right? I hope you know that. Things together means sharing a lot of episodes like today,” added Rap Monster.
BTS had a fruitful stay in the Philippines. They spent one week in the country, arriving early on May 1, and mixed pleasure and work. Besides getting a much-needed vacation, BTS also did promo shoots, according to a source.
