The 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) hasn’t officially started, yet it has garnered quite the buzz due to the absence of the usual faces in the Magic 8, among them Vic Sotto.

Vic fielded “Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers” this year but it didn’t make the cut.

The veteran comedian has mixed feelings over the exclusion of his film.

“Kung (meron mang) sama ng loob, hindi para sa akin kundi para sa mga bata,” he said at a press conference. “With all due respect sa mga kasamahan natin sa pelikula, for the first time in so many years, panahon pa nila Dolphy, FPJ, hindi nawawalan ng pambata basta pinagusapan ay Metro Manila Film Festival.”

Vic cleared he respects the MMFF’s decision but with caveat.

“Ako, naniniwala ako sa salitang respeto,” he said. I don’t have anything personal against them.

At this point, the Magic 8 movies have yet to be rated by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). Most of these movies are deemed “indies” by some people.

On the quality of “Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers,” he said, “Siyempre kahit ano naman pelikula ang ginagawa namin we make sure na malinis ang gawa.

“Maybe sa ibang tao, wala sa kalidad nila iyon. Pero taste niyo ’yun eh. Ito ang taste namin pagdating sa pelikula. We make sure na it’s for the whole family.”

“Enteng Kabisote” opens in cinemas today and Vic is hopeful it will be a big hit among moviegoers as in past instalments in previous years.

“Blessing in disguise kasi mas magiging mahaba ang aming showing. Kapag binuwenas-buwenas, eh baka umabot din ng Pasko at bagong taon,” he said. “The chances of it being a box office hit is very possible.”

He is not worried about Vice and Coco’s “The Super Parental Guardians” also opening on the same day.

“That’s okay. Mas maganda ’yung may kasama. Si Vice at si Coco, malulungkot kapag wala ako,” he said in jest.

For its 10th edition, the “Enteng Kabisote” franchise has the hero Enteng working hard to save the human race from digital manipulation.

“As far as the story is concerned, nag-level up na din. With the help of my partners, like ’yung mga tatlong lola, nag-put up kami ng business. It’s a very entertaining story. We made sure na buong family will enjoy it,” Vic said.

“Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers,” directed by Marlon Rivera, also stars Oyo Boy Sotto, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Paolo Ballesteros, Bea Binene, Ken Chan, Ryza Cenon, Epi Quizon, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Atak, Cacai Bautista, Simon Loresca and Alonzo Muhlach. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
