From a catchy novelty song and nursery rhymes, to a heart-melting dance performance and a fairy-tale wedding, this year’s top non-music YouTube trends show the Filipino netizens’ eclectic interests.
Taking the lead is Piko Taro’s sleeper hit “PPAP” that, despite being uploaded in August, became viral in October when Justin Bieber tweeted about it, earning more than 170 million views in less than 3 months.
The Guinness record holder also placed second on the global list, following Adele’s carpool karaoke.
In second place is the kid-friendly “huge egg surprise challenge” in an inflatable water slide by Ryan ToysReview.
Homegrown talent also made it to the country’s top trends, with Ian Joseph’s The Voice Kids Philippines blind audition in third.
Joseph’s rendition of Sugarfree’s “Wag Ka Nang Umiyak” pierced through the hearts of judges Sharon Cuneta, Bamboo and Lea Salonga, as well as its 6 million plus YouTube viewers.
The zumba routine by the Live Love Party fitness group to the hit dance craze “Trumpet” landed on the fourth spot.
In the fifth spot is the breathtaking performance of Power Duo in their Pilipinas Got Talent Season 5 auditions.
The dance-partners-turned-real-life-couple duo earned raves, a standing ovation and a golden buzzer from judge Robin Padilla. The pair became the season’s champions.
