In a surprising twist, Filipino-American Kriesha Tiu, a.k.a. Chrisha Choo, was eliminated from “K-pop Star 6: The Last Chance,” ending her journey on the Korean TV show.
Tiu, 17, a popular contestant on the show, was in tears as judge Yang Hyun-suk, founder of YG Entertainment, announced that she was out of the competition during the seventh episode over the weekend.
During the show, the contestants were grouped for the team survival mission. The team of Tiu and Lee Soo Min performed against Kim Hye-rim and Min Ga Rin.
Tiu and Lee sang BTS’ “Blood Sweat & Tears” and danced to Black Pink’s “Playing with Fire.”
However, they failed to impress the judges with their performance including Tiu missing the lyrics of the song.
“This is hard to judge,” said Yang, according to KShowOnline. “The biggest flaw was your key. I’m not sure if it was because you had to move around but you were both slightly off tune.”
He added that he “felt that this song had too much for two people to cover.” During the past episodes, Tiu impressed Yang so much that he said he wanted to sign her up under his agency.
As for Tiu, he told her that he made a slight mistake in singing the lyrics that “it made you nervous and you went downhill from there.”
Judge Park Jin-young, founder of JYP Entertainment, told them that “I don’t think that either of you fit the hip-hop theme.”
“It doesn’t match you. I feel like you weren’t able to show off the talents that you have.
However, your tunes and lines were both bad. I think you didn’t practice as much as the other team. That’s what disappointed me,” he said.
On the other hand, Kim and Min wowed the judges with their girl group concept, charming choreography and teamwork as they sang “Somebody” by 15&.
“You did a good job,” Yang told them.
In the end, the three judges chose Kim and Min as the winner of the face-off round.
Backstage, Tiu and Lee cried and consoled each other for the disappointing result.
Tiu continued to tear up as she walked down the stairs for disqualified contestants but said, “I’m fine.”
“I’m going to continue singing,” she vowed.
