Just when the viral Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen is thought to be so last year, Pikotaro brought it with him as he welcomed 2017.

And the comedian made sure the 2017 version is a lot grander than the last one.

Pikotaro (the stage name of Daimaou Kosaka) performed the song backed by a choir singing “Ode to Joy” in a concert on New Year’s Day.

Prior to this, on December 30, Pikotaro—donning his gold suit and leopard-print scarf—performed the hit song with a full orchestra at the Japan Record Awards.

The song earned the Guinness World Record for the shortest song to chart in the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.
