Gabby Concepcion is happy that being on “Ika-6 Na Utos” allowed him many firsts in his decades-long stay in show business.
“Dahil sa show na ito, first time gaganap ako na piloto. First time ko ding afternoon show ito. First time ko din makaka-trabaho for a soap sila Sunshine (Dizon) and Ryza (Cenon),” he said.
He recalled feeling excited when told about his role.
“It’s been a dream of mine (to become a pilot) kasi pero hindi natuloy.”
Apart from that, he also likes the storyline, saying, “very different from the usual na ginagawa ko and at this point, I welcome change talaga.”
“Ika-6 Na Utos” tackles love and betrayal in different forms and the seasoned actor considers it very timely.
“Talagang mabigat kasi nga saan mo huhugutin ’yung mga eksena na ina-accuse sa akin ’di ba? May pelikulang ang dali-dali, may teleseryeng very light pero ito, ang bigat ng impact.”
He also finds the series relatable.
“Timing ang storya eh,” Gabby noted. “Nangyayari talaga siya sa tunay na buhay, kahit na people are married you can’t say na kapag may nakita kang somebody hindi ka titingin (sa iba) ’di ba?”
No, it did not happen to him in real life.
“I had failed relationships pero hindi naman ’yung in the middle of one ay nagkaroon ako ng isa pa.”
Still has it
At 52, Gabby is still one of the most popular leading men in showbiz.
So how does it feel being the epitome of “ka-gwapuhan” despite his age?
“I’m flattered siyempre,” he maintained. “But ako naman as long as may project ako, magagandang role ’yung binibigay sa akin, masaya na ako.”
He is, of course, thankful for the continued blessings showered on him.
“Itong GMA nakakatuwa kasi sila talaga ’yung nagpapalaki sa akin at magaganda talaga ’yung mga stories na binibigay nila sa akin.”
After two failed marriages, Gabby has seemingly found forever in third wife Genevieve Yacto Gonzales. They’ve been together for some 12 years now.
“Ang turo kasi sa atin as Catholics, when you are married stay married until you die,” Gabby said about the annulment of his past two marriages. “But reality says if it doesn’t work, you have to move forward.”
The actor added: “When I fall in love naka-stick ako eh unless wala na talaga. Once na I end the relationship you will know.”
So, why tie the knot several times? Gabby maintained, “I have values.”
“Ayoko naman gayahin ang ibang tao na nakikisama ng walang basbas ng Diyos,” he noted. “Tatanungin ng tao, ano ba ang tama talaga? Sa akin, kanya-kanya ’yan eh. I have values but ako naman I’m not perfect, I want to follow the rules before I do anything.”
He believes no man is an island and that everyone needs someone to lean on.
“Siyempre gusto mo naman may nakakasama ka ’di ba? Hindi naman masama na kapag void na ’yung love eh humanap ka ng bago,” he said. “As long as hindi nag-o-overlap, sa tingin ko walang problema du’n.”
“Ika-6 Na Utos” airs weekdays on the network’s GMA Afternoon Prime block.
Meanwhile, Gabby is among GMA artists who graced the recently concluded Sinulog Festival in Cebu.
Others who were also present at the festival were “Pinulot Ka Lang Sa Lupa” stars Julie Anne San Jose, Benjamin Alves and LJ Reyes; “Meant To Be’s” Jak Roberto, Addy Raj and Ivan Dorschner; Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuevas of the upcoming adaptation of “My Love From The Star;” and the phenomenal loveteam of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.
