Eight years after it became a hit TV series in Korea, “Boys Over Flowers” is now moving to the stage.
“Boys Over Flowers: The Musical” will be staged in Seoul from Feb. 24 to May 7 at the Hongik Daehangno Art Center featuring K-pop stars.
VIXX’s Ken, BTOB’s Changsub and Kim Ji Hwi will essay the musical role of Tsukasa in the “Hana Yori Dango” manga, which was the basis for all TV adaptations including the Korean version.
Tsukasa was played by Lee Min Ho as Gu Jun-pyo in the Korean TV version, and Jerry Yan as Dao Ming Si in the Taiwanese version “Meteor Garden.”
Super Junior’s Sungmin, Jung Hwi and musical actor Kim Tae-oh will be Rui in the musical. Kim Hyun Joong played the part as Ji-hoo in “Boys Over Flowers.”
Miss A’s Min and J-Min will take the role of Tsukushi, played by Ku Hye-sun as Geum Jan-di in the Korean TV version.
This will be Sungmin’s first project since being discharged from the Korean army last December.
The musical’s book and lyrics are by Go Aoki and music by Akimitsu Homma.
In the manga series, commoner Tsukushi attends the prestigious Eitoku Academy where the F4 members rule. She stands up to the group and Tsukasa, the F4 leader, becomes attracted to her.
“Boys Over Flowers” was aired in Korea from January to March 2009 and its popularity was replicated in other countries including the Philippines.
It became Lee Min Ho’s ticket to stardom and boosted the careers of Ku Hye-sun, Kim Bum, Kim Joon and Kim Hyun Joong.
