Joross Gamboa has no problem if he spends the rest of his career as actor doing supporting roles.
“Okay lang naman sa’kin ’yun,” he said. “Maliit o malaking role, trabaho pa din ’yun.”
Joross, who once clinched a Cinemalaya best supporting actor trophy, is currently seen on the romantic-comedy drama series “Meant To Be.” He shared he readily accepts any project to provide for his family.
Joross is happily married to Kathy Kimberly Saga, with whom he has year-old son, Jace.
“Isa lang naman akong tatay na nagta-trabaho, so lahat ng ginagawa ko para ’yun sa pamilya ko,” he said.
Known for being a funny guy, we asked him what it takes to be a comedian. Well, the 32-year-old said he wouldn’t really know as it comes to him naturally.
“Maloko kasi ako simula nu’ng bata pa lang ako,” he said. “Sa’kin kasi normal na ’yung mga hirit ko and kapag andu’n na kasi ’yun hindi mo mapipigilan.”
It helped that he grew up in an environment where most are into comedy.
“Komedyante pamilya ko, pati barkada ko. Kaparehas ko silang humirit, lahat mga pilosopo,” he said, laughing.
Working with gay comedians help, too.
“Sanay na ako sa industriya na napapaligiran ng mga beki (gays), and natutuwa naman ako sa humor nila,” he noted.
He is also into impersonations. As matter of fact, he is one of the contestants on the now-defunct reality show “Superstar Duets.”
“Kapag mag-i-impersonate kasi ang kailangan lang naman talaga pag-aralan mo ’yung taong gagayahin mo tapos i-e-exaggerate mo lang ’yung mga nuances nila,” he said.
Tagged as one of industry’s more versatile talents who can sing, dance and act, Joross has this advice to aspiring performers.
“Dapat wala kang insecurities sa katawan,” he noted. “Kung gusto mo naman maging komedyante, dapat alam mo ’yung pintas sa katawan mo at tanggapin mo. Marami kasing ayaw papangitin ang itsura pero dapat kasi laging free flowing ’yung atmosphere.”
Joross is all set for his new show titled “Full House Tonight.”
Talking about it, he said, “Para siyang ‘Saturday Night Live’ na may kantahan, variety show, may mga sketches din at marami kaming ipo-portray na mga characters.”
Joross has acid reflux but he promises to give audiences a breathtaking singing number once he gets better.
“Magtu-two months na kasi akong may ubo so ilang episodes namin hindi ako nakakanta. Pero kapag umayos na, kapag okay na ako, kakanta talaga ako,” he said.
Nonetheless, Joross shared audience should expect a “full house” show.
“Ang maganda kasi dito, talented ang production, tapos light ang atmosphere, kumbaga walang attitude ’yung mga kasama ko so lahat magkakasundo kaya maganda ’yung kinakalabasan nu’ng mga ginagawa namin,” he said.
“Full House Tonight”“Full House Tonight” is topbilled by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Joross only has good words for Asia’s Songbird, whom she is working with for the first time.
“Dati kinikilabutan lang ako ’pag may multo pero ngayon ’pag narinig mong kumanta si Ms. Regine, talaga namang kikilabutan ka din,” he joked.
“Si Ms. Regine kasi, ’di ba nasa mataas na level na siya, kumbaga pundasyon na sa industriya. Ang nakakatuwa du’n, hindi siya nahihiya na makipag-biruan sa’min. Sobrang down-to-earth niya,” Joross added.
Joross also shared he and wife Kath often sing “Tuwing Umuulan (At Kapiling Ka),” one of Regine’s hit covers.
“Sobrang blessing na makaka-trabaho ko siya, hindi ako bakla pero fan talaga ako ni Regine,” he said. “Kasi ’di ba walang bading na hindi fan ni Regine, kaya sobrang saya ko na I’m sharing the stage with her.” (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
