Kiko on breakup with Barbie: ‘Sana hinintay niya ako’

‘She’s a huge success now and I’m very proud of her. My love for her eclipses our breakup.’

Months after putting a muzzle on the matter, Kapuso actor Kiko Estrada has let out a torrent about his short-lived romance with Barbie Forteza last year.

He began by saying when cornered by the press and grilled about it that it was “the right love at the wrong time.”

“Me and Barbie, we choose career over love,” he told Bulletin Entertainment and select members of media at the press conference of his upcoming Regal Entertainment movie “Pwera Usog.”

“I love her so much but ayun nga nagkulang ako sa panahon.”

He stressed though that he didn’t do anything wrong “it’s just that nag-focus ako masyado sa career ko pero hindi ako ang nang-iwan.”

Kiko admitted the breakup was painful for him.

“Siyempre nasaktan ako sa breakup namin kasi sino bang hindi nasasaktan ’di ba?” he maintained. “But, as much as I love her, it’s work over love muna for now.”

Recall that rumors started circulating last May that they were playing sweet music together. Come August, however, when she was asked about “them” and if it’s true they had called it quits, Barbie was quoted to have said in an interview, “Ayaw, I don’t like. Hanggang du’n lang. Ayoko na munang pag-usapan.”

Egged further, she bleated in jest, “I need a lawyer. Charing!”

In another interview, she seemingly confirmed what Kiko had just revealed. Barbie said, “Sabihin na lang natin na time-based ang naging rason ng break-up namin. Parang lagi kaming naghahabol ng oras…”

Early this year, Barbie declared she has “moved on” from their failed relationship.

When it’s over

According to Kiko, Barbie decided to end their relationship the time he was busy with the GMA afternoon series “Sinungaling Mong Puso.”

“It’s my first lead role so ang nangyari nandu’n na ’yung focus ko, and I worked hard,” he shared.

His performance on the show earned him the Outstanding New Best Actor plum at the World Class Excellence Japan Awards.

Kiko is happy about it, of course, as “pinaghirapan ko ’yun eh.”

But can he say the same about his heart?

So I didn’t ask for it and I respected her decision. At the end of the day, walang masamang tao dito. Parehas kaming nasaktan.”

The 21-year-old shared he and Barbie aren’t communicating to this day.

“Pero I’m happy for her, I actually watch her shows,” he shared, referring to “Meant To Be.” “She’s a huge success now and I’m very proud of her. My love for her eclipses our breakup.”

Single for months now, is Kiko opening his heart to new love, we asked.

“Wala akong pinapayagang pumunta sa puso ko ngayon kasi focused ako sa career ko. Parang walang lovelife, pero may career naman ako kaya okay na ako.”

Career plans

Kiko is, no doubt, one of the busiest stars in the industry today, working on projects left and right.

The actor will soon be seen on the telefantasya “Mulawin Vs. Ravena.”

“I’m honored and blessed na I’m part of the cast. It’s going to be the highest budgeted telefantasya of the year and I’m really excited,” he maintained.

How is he preparing for his role on the series?

“I go to gym regularly, kasi I need to gain konting muscle then siyempre I have to read and memorize my lines.”
Kiko is also set to do another teleserye this year.

“2017 is going to be Kiko Estrada year,” he proudly said, adding he is shooting a movie titled “Song In The Rain” written and directed by Charlotte Dianco.

Commitment and focus on work are Kiko’s mantra in life now.

“This 2017 gusto ko maging proud lahat ng tao sa papanoorin nila sa akin,” he noted.

Is he willing to portray daring roles in the future? Kiko quickly said yes.

For the meantime, Kiko is busy promoting his latest film “Pwera Usog” under Regal Entertainment. Directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, “Pwera Usog” is a fun-horror movie involving technology.

Showing on March 8, the film also stars Joseph Marco, Sofia Andres, Devon Seron, Albie Casiño, Cherise Castro with Eula Valdes, Aiko Melendez, Rommel Padilla, among others. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
