K-pop star and actor Kim Hyun Joong is facing charges of drunk driving, threatening his bid to resume his entertainment career through a scheduled fan meeting on April 29.
The 30-year-old celebrity, who was discharged from the army last February 11, was caught drunk behind the wheel at 2AM last March 26 in Songpa District in Seoul, according to Korean news reports that came out today.
Kim Hyun Joong was driving his car when he fell asleep while waiting at a stoplight at an intersection. The driver of the car behind him noticed that the star’s car was not moving when the traffic light turned green and called the police.
Based on a test, Kim Hyun Joong’s blood alcohol level at the time was 0.075 percent, which warranted the automatic suspension of his driver’s license based on Korean traffic law.
He reported to the police station for questioning wherein he said before the incident, he was drinking with friends near his house and the parking attendant asked him to move his car.
His agency, KeyEast Entertainment, said that Kim Hyun Joong acknowledged that it was wrong to drive after drinking and the company promised that it won’t let this happen again.
