WELCOME REUNION: TV and movie producers have this naughty habit of reuniting long-lost lovers in what many consider a casting coup. The forced situation, an accepted showbiz formula, often throws concerned actors, former lovers, in fits of discomfort.
However, producers and to a certain extent, audiences, find excitement in such unexpected pairings. You can say some even get a kick out of it, at the expense of other people’s emotions and for the sake of bankability. In psychology, this could be related to a person’s natural voyeuristic tendencies.
The latest beneficiary of such a magic wand treatment is the torn love team on-and-offscreen between Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu. They lead the cast of new ABS-CBN series “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin,” which premiered May 1.
The series is touted as the much awaited TV reunion between Kim and Gerald, erstwhile teen lovers on “Pinoy Big Brother” and co-stars in a series of successful TV-movie projects.
Kim and Gerald’s past outings include “Sana Maulit Muli,” “My Girl,” “Your Song,” “Tayong Dalawa,” and “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.”
They are cast this time as triathletes in “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” with Jake Cuenca and Coleen Garcia, providing competition in the romantic department.

RECONNECTING CHALLENGES: Kim and Gerald, once upon a time the hottest teen love team, parted ways nearly 10 years ago under difficult circumstances. There was even a crying scene at a press conference on the part of Kim, who took the break-up badly.
That scene ended their personal relationship as well as professional partnership. Both went on to team up with other actors, scoring hits and misses along the way.
At the back of their minds, they knew one day soon, a project reuniting them would come along.
Kim said it was initially hard to reconnect with Gerald, admittedly her first love. Then, she realized that time has, indeed, healed her wounds.
Gerald expressed almost the same opinion, adding he welcomed the opportunity to work with Kim again.
Both didn’t consider it a downside that “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin,” unlike their previous starrers, landed a late morning timeslot on their home network. It’s an entirely new territory to them, which they said they wanted to explore.
“Besides, if people want to watch us, they will do so no matter the time slot,” Kim said.

‘PASSERBY’ ON FACEBOOK: I enjoy running daily posts under the heading ‘Passerby’ on my Facebook page.
They are observations, comments and musings on life, often silly, more often than not, reflections of a disturbed mind.
I’d like to share with readers some of my recent postings.
People escape city heat only to feel even hotter on beaches. Don’t get it.
Ideal places to visit in summer are not beaches but cool Baguio, Tagaytay, Lipa, Tanay, Lucban.
The only form of heat I like is the buffet place at EDSA Shang.
The Fort is lacking in trees. Makes it one of the hottest places in Metro Manila.
