Actor Matteo Guidicelli has always been a planner in all aspects of his life.
This is contrary to several people’s image of him as some carefree, rich kid from Cebu, who literally lived life on the fast lane as a champion karting driver.
In an interview, Matteo said he is not a you-only-live-once guy at all.
“I really don’t know where that happy-go-lucky image came from really,” he said, laughing. “I guess that’s showbiz for you. But, to be honest, I’ve always been a planner for as long as I can remember.”
It started in his high school days.
“I always tell my friends na ‘Oh I want this, I want to be like this.’ I always have goals,” he shared.
Matteo credited this attitude to his Italian father (Gianluca Guidicelli), whom he said follows a sort of military-style parenting.
“I grew up with a very meticulous dad. Like I needed to be up from bed by this time, home by that time, so I always had to plan my life,” the actor explained.
Just like when preparing for a triathlon (he recently competed in the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships in Cebu), Matteo is, well, readying to be ready all the time.
“I’ve got a clear picture of where I want to be in five years, in 10, in 20. I want to be sure that I’m ready for those phases in my life,” he said.
Matteo is the type of guy who handles his finances well.
The 27-year-old celebrity revealed he has a financial adviser who helps him make sound investments.
“Importante ’yun eh,” he noted.
“We have to be smart on what we are doing with our finances. For the past years, I’d been working a lot, so it’s important na may napupuntahan ’yun,” the actor added.
According to the actor, his adviser came up with a certain formula, which goes something like “single guy income, minus investments, equals expenses.”
“It means the money I can spend now,” Matteo continued. “In the same way, I also know that when the time comes that I want to spend for a property, I’ll be able to do it.”
With his very sensible and mature way of planning his finances, it seems like Matteo is an ideal advocate of financial freedom.
This is probably why he was tapped to lead the Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc (SLAMCI), financial literacy campaign.
Dubbed “Make It Mutual,” it is a series of vlogs which aims to teach Filipinos about how investing can help make their #lifegoals come true.
The vlogs will tackle topics relevant to personal finance, such as growing one’s money, beating inflation and investing regularly. To make it easy for the viewer to relate these to real life, the modules shall be demonstrated in themes familiar to them, like travel, fashion, and fitness, among others.
Thankful to be part of the campaign, Matteo said he is passionate about his work for the company as he would like to see more young people experience a constantly improving lifestyle as a reward for their own hard work.
“The sooner you start (planning for your finances), the better,” he said.
What about marriage?
At the interview, some members of the press teased Matteo if he is already financially prepared to settle down.
The boy simply acknowledged the idea with a smile. “It really depends,” he hinted, admitting he initially thought of walking down the aisle at the age of 27.
“But I’m 27 now, actually alam ko na (kung kelan ako mag-propose) pero secret lang muna,” he said in jest.
Matteo is currently in a relationship with Popstar Princess Sarah Geronimo.
It seems like the actor remains evasive about the nitty gritty of the relationship, believing “sometimes it’s nice to put mystery on something.”
“For me, (marriage) is something that na I would like to keep by myself na lang muna,” he said. “I would like to make it a surprise pero for now I want keep it private but I can assure na it will come.” (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
