Sylvia Sanchez clucks her tongue at typecasting and would rather be known as versatile actress even if it means less frequent but marked outings.
Walang bago, walang makikitang iba ’yung mga tao (kapag ganu’n),” she said.
She has rejected recent offers to play mother roles as she finds them similar to Gloria, the character she played on the just-defunct teleserye “The Greatest Love.”
In truth, no role is too small for Sylvia. She has no qualms in doing supporting role even if she already played lead on “The Greatest Love.”
Sylvia has a TV show in the works but she declines to give further details as “pinag-uusapan pa.”
She is also set to do an indie film for Cinema One Originals Film Festival.
Take it from her
Sylvia disclosed there was one point when she thought of giving up her showbiz career.
“Meron kasing time na one and a half year akong walang project,” she shared.
The actress got insecure with herself and thought acting might not be for her after all.
Hindi ako dapat artista,” she recalled.
Thankfully, she did not lose hope.
For Sylvia, everything happens for a reason and she believes God will give what she wants at the right time.
Everything is going well now in Sylvia’s career. She won best actress trophies at the recent Gawad Tanglaw Awards and at KBP Golden Dove Awards.
Asked about her longevity in the industry, Sylvia said it is all about her love for the craft.
“Siyempre higit sa lahat ’yung pakikisama at dapat ’wag kang maging pasaway,” she added. “Dapat mahalin mo, maski na sino. Mapa-boss, mapa-utility.
Sylvia doesn’t dwell in negativity, maintaining “dapat positive lang palagi.”
“Hindi ko pinapasok sa buhay ko ’yun kasi at the end of the day ako loser eh.”
When it comes to bashers, Sylvia has this to say: “Bina-block ko lang sila.”
“Walang dahilan para malungkot ako eh,” she said, adding her family serves as her happy pill.
Ano pang hahanapin ko ’di ba?” she said.
Looking young and fit
She might be a celebrity but Sylvia is not a vain woman.
The actress even describes herself as “simpleng jologs,” as she can go to the mall sans makeup on.
“Honestly kampante naman ako kahit walang makeup. Alam ko naman ang itsura ko,” she said, laughing.
But now, at 46, Sylvia has welcomed the idea of beautifying herself.
She visits the gym regularly these days.
“Nagpapa-fresh ako eh,” she said in jest.
Turning serious, Sylvia reiterated that it is her way of valuing the opportunities ABS-CBN has been giving her.
“Puro magagandang roles ang binibigay ng ABS-CBN sa akin so I think dapat ibalik ko din sa kanila ’yun, kailangan ayusin ko sarili lalo na lagi akong nasa camera,” she noted.
For Sylvia, it is never too late to be fit and healthy, believing in the saying “habang tumatanda, lalong gumaganda.”
Does it mean she will flaunt her bod anytime soon, we teased.
“Bakit naman hindi?” she shot back.
“May karapatan pa din naman ako, pero sana two piece (swimsuit), ’wag ng one piece,” she said with a smile.
Sylvia has been tapped as endorser of Beaute’Derm Soap.
It is Sylvia’s first endorsement since she started in showbiz 27 years ago.
Now that she has a billboard all over the metro, Sylvia said: “Nakaka-speechless.”
Beaute’Derm owner Rei Ramos-Tan believes Sylvia is the perfect choice.
“Actually isa akong taga-hanga ng isang Sylvia Sanchez, nakita kong napaka-verstatile niyang actress mapa-bida o kontrabida, kayang kaya niyang gawin,” she said. “Siya ’yung nakilala ko na napakatotoong tao, so sabi ko perfect siya para magiging ambassador ng Beaute’Derm, which has been awarded as one of the Superbrands for 2017 to 2018.” (With report from Jojo P.
