How to be you, Khalil Ramos?

After playing mostly supporting roles for six years, the 21-year-old singer-actor finally gets the build-up as first contract artist of Reality Entertainment

Reality Entertainment, headed by Dondon Monteverde and Erik Matti, will leave no stone unturned in making Khalil Ramos one of the most important actors of his generation.

“We’re doing a buildup contract for Khalil. We’re keeping him as exclusive as we can for us in a number of years and in a number of projects. The build-up contract promises to both him and us in Reality that we will make sure to look after his career as an actor,” said Erik.

“Of course, we have a specific kind of build-up for Khalil, specific kinds of movies that we’re looking at him doing. Khalil is one of the few actors in the industry now that has been serious in making sure he concentrates on the craft of performing and acting in general.”

They first worked with Khalil in the film “Honor Thy Father,” where they saw his potential as an actor. They now have two projects underway for him.

Asked to comment on this surprising but deserved turn in his career, Khalil said, “This year, I’m trying to reap (what I’ve sown) and I’ve been getting projects. I know my potential at the moment and I can’t wait to reach, if ever I do, my maximum potential as artist.”

He added: “Sobrang unreal lang for me (what’s been going on). Dati, iniisip ko lang ito. It’s true na whenever you think about it and if you strongly believe it, it will definitely happen and I’m here now.”

Dondon and Erik believe Khalil fit their type of movies and do multiple roles, too.

“He could be versatile as an actor. Hindi lang iisang klaseng Khalil ang nakikita ninyo when he portrays a role. Nakita namin ’yung potential sa versatility niya,” Dondon said.

Erik shared they thought of getting Khalil since early this year when they were thinking of several projects they plan to do. They believe that despite his matinee idol looks, Khalil can also take on serious and edgy characters.

“Cute si Khalil pero hindi naman siya nag-a-appeal sa cute lang. Para sa amin, may konting tapang, may konting seriousness siya. In the previous projects we did, hirap na hirap kami maghanap ng artista because it’s either contracted by a major network (na sila) and they’re trying to drive the actor to be a certain type of actor all throughout their careers. So naisip na namin to invest in Khalil; build him up for the kind of movies we have,” Erik said.

He added, “I’ve seen a lot of actors who don’t think about their material, and iniisip lang nila if that could help the brand they’re building or help kung ano plans nila sa sarili nila. That’s tough kasi sometimes it’s a bit too late when they want to start doing more serious stuff.”

Filling a vacuum, making an impact

Reality Entertainment intends to build up other actors. In past projects, they cast the likes of Dingdong Dantes, Piolo Pascual, and John Lloyd Cruz in lead roles.

“What we lack in this industry now is a male representative in our movies. Almost always, our male representatives are partnered with another girl pero no one’s been carrying na siya lang mag-isa and trying to tell the story or point of view from just one male character. Eventually we could bring Khalil into a larger than life hero onscreen kasi iyon ’yung parang vacuum or wala tayo eh,” Erik said.

Now that more opportunities are here for Khalil, he wants to persevere even more in improving his craft. Khalil believes being an actor has a great influence on people and it comes with big responsibility.

“I would go back to 2015 when I started to be open to everything in life. When I actually found my inclination, which is storytelling as an actor. In 2015 I also enrolled myself in film school.

“When I started doing films with direk Erik and other production companies, I was influenced by everyone, their movement towards creating excellence towards making films and TV. I am just inspired and I told myself that one day I will be able to master this inclination of storytelling.

“Ever since that defining moment in my life, I live everyday thinking about the energy. ’Yung thought process ko is centered on my purpose and my life goal which is to be a respected actor. It comes from me wanting to tell stories in the future so I can make my impact on society.”
