Eight months after the success of their Metro Manila Film Festival movie “Vince & Kath & James,” Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia head Star Cinema’s “Love You To The Stars And Back.”
Their success as a love team may have come as a surprise to some people considering that first movie had tough competition. But the two believe it’s destiny.
“Binigay lang namin ’yung kaya naming ibigay, which is our best. So we gave our best. The rest, I personally believe it’s destiny,” Julia said at a press conference.
Recall that their previous movie also starred Ronnie Alonte.
“I’m also not sure kung ano ’yung nakita ng tao pero sa aking paramdam, I think they like it that what we have is genuine. It’s true and honest.”
Joshua agreed, noting, “Totoo lang kami sa nararamdaman namin and very seryoso kami sa trabaho namin.”
Before Joshua, she was paired with Enrique Gil and Iñigo Pascual, and was often compared to contemporaries Liza Soberano and Kathryn Bernardo.
“’Yung mga experiences ko dati really humbled me. It made me realize na you should put importance on things kapag andiyan hindi ’yung kapag nawala na,” Julia said.
“I think there’s a perfect time for everything. Everyone has their time to shine. Right now I’m not saying na this is my time to shine but I can say na I’m in a much better place than I was before and I cannot be more thankful. Very overwhelmed, thankful ako ngayon.”
The same goes for Joshua who is now considered the brightest young talent in the ABS-CBN roster, only a short time since his stint on the reality show “Pinoy Big Brother.”
Easy does it
Working together the second time around brought the two closer to each other. While Joshua admits to courting Julia, he shared they’re still in the “getting to know each other” stage.
“Mahaba pa ’yung tatakbuhin ng adventure namin and ang importante doon ay mas nakikilala na namin ang isa’t-isa ng mas malalim,” he said.
Julia is quite comfortable being around Joshua but she would rather take things slow, too.
“I feel like we’ve known each other very well already. I think our friendship is deeper than before pero I think hindi ito enough na rason para to rush into things. Right now, I’m enjoying his company and I think that’s what matters most at the end of the day,” she said.
If ever, she doesn’t see any problem mixing love with work.
“If I’m being very honest, I’ve learned to prioritize my work but he’s become an important person in my life. And it’s not like nakakasagabal siya sa trabaho ko so I don’t see any problem naman if ever pagsabayin iyon,” she said.
Calling each other bubba, Julia and Joshua have learned a lot from each other.
“This time deeper ’yung everyday na nagkakasama kami. The more we know about each other, the more we know how to deal sa isa’t-isa,” she said.
Many speculate they are already a couple but Joshua revealed, “Hindi pa.”
Ako ’yung tao na ma-insecure at mababa ang confidence,” he said.
Their friendship and familiarity to each other is a big advantage for their director Antoinette Jadaone.
Kinikilig ako sa kanilang dalawa, bagay sila as a team. Noong nakatrabaho ko sila, ang daling i-capture ng chemistry nila from off-screen to on-screen,” Antoinette said.
She commended the actors for giving their all to their characterization.
Na-meet niya on the way si Caloy na may sarili niyang journey.
“Love You To The Stars And Back” starts showing in cinemas on Aug. 30.
