Gabby Concepcion is enjoying the ride being part of GMA’s hit afternoon teleserye “Ika-6 Na Utos.”
The show is about married couple Rome and Emma, played by Gabby and Sunshine Dizon, respectively, and Rome’s lover Georgia, played by Ryza Cenon.
Gabby likes it that he gets to play a two-timing husband.
“Nanggaling ako sa mga goody-goody roles eh, so when it was offered to me, I thought, ‘Ito ang gusto ko, malayo sa usual.’ Hindi ka dumidikit sa iisang characterization lang,” he said in an interview during the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City.
Surprisingly, the seasoned actor thinks his role on “Ika-6 Na Utos” is more challenging than on “Because Of You” which won him awards.
Lights, camera, action!
Gabby is happy that the show is a hit with people talking about its seemingly campy fight scenes.
The confrontations between Emma and Georgia in particular have become popular online.
Trying to make sense of it, Gabby said, “Kasi siguro ’yung mga tao sabik sa ganoon, wala na kasing action movies eh, madalang na.
Doing it right
He admitted he is as surprised as most people with the popularity being enjoyed by the show, which has since been extended by the powers that be.
Basta ako, whatever it is, I’m happy that the show is doing good,” he said.
Gabby revealed the lead actors have been given leeway in terms of delivering their dialogue. He likes it so, relating that it adds color to the proceedings.
Asked how he wants “Ika-6 Na Utos” to end, Gabby said, “Ako siyempre gusto ko dapat may redeeming value.
Gabby has done a variety of roles. At this point in his career, he wants to try something new, like, an advice show on radio.
Is he thinking of becoming the next Joe D’ Mango or Papa Jack, we asked.
Like, I want to deal with overseas foreign workers. I could relate because I was one.
Gabby also mentioned his experience being estranged from her daughters.
“Like si KC, matagal kaming naghiwalay. Noong nagkahiwalay kami, siguro mga 10 years old siya, naglalaro kami madalas ganu’n, tapos biglang naputol ’yun. So, ’yung longing andoon. 20 years old na siya noong nagkita ulit kami. So, it’s another thing na pwede makita ng mga tao na, ‘Ah merong pinanggalingan ito,’” he said.
Aside from the possibilty of working on radio, Gabby also wants to tackle anti-hero roles.
“Like isang politician who rose to success then suffered a downfall, ’yun ang mga interesting sa akin ngayon,” he said. “Or like that of a jeepney driver who became somebody or isang nanalo sa lotto but would ultimately lose his winnings, mga ganoong tipo.” (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
