With an upcoming movie and a new teleserye, producing films, doing sports and fitness, and supporting charities, does Piolo Pascual still have time to breathe?
At 40 years old, well, there’s still no slowing down for him. After participating in the recent Ironman event in Cebu, Piolo is gearing for SunPiology Duo, a two-part event for running and biking enthusiasts.
“It’s a matter of consistency. When you train constantly, of course, there’s wear and tear, but it’s all about the right form, the right balance, enough sleep. If you’re health conscious naman, it’s not like a chore. For me, I always try to find time or squeeze it into my schedule because it’s beneficial to my health,” Piolo said at a press conference.
Piolo has been joining Ironman for years now.
“The older you are, the tougher the competition gets. So mas exciting because mga oldies, they get more challenged by the younger ones. You look at it as a challenge, not as a handicap,” Piolo said.
He looks ever youthful, thanks to his healthy lifestyle. Lucky for him, he still has not experienced a lot of body aches at his age.
“We all get old. It’s not necessary to defy your age. You just want to live a healthy life because you want to maximize your fullest potential as a person. You also get to train your mind. For me, the benefits, health-wise, I’m more agile and more able to train myself to be active. In this business, you got to look your best,” he said.
Piolo has his son Iñigo go with him to trainings.
“When he’s around, he trains with me. When he was very young, he used to run with me. Now he’s 20 years old and he gets to ride with me, ’yung mga ganoong bonding. We’re both busy so that simple time that you get to spend with him is really special to me. He’s more into music and arts but I encourage him to do fitness and sports for his health. I always push him but if he wants to rest, I let him rest,” he said.
While Piolo is busy with his sports, acting will always be on his list of priorities. He stars with Toni Gonzaga in the movie “Last Night,” written by Bela Padilla.
“It’s really edgy and we never thought we’d still be able to do something like this. We shot chronologically for five months, it’s quite different. You don’t wanna do same films, same roles every time,” he said.
Piolo is not just successful as an actor, but as a producer as well. The movie “Kita Kita,” starring Empoy Marquez and Alessandra de Rossi, which he produced reportedly earned over R300 million.
After this blockbuster hit, Star Cinema renewed Empoy’s contract.
“He’s really meant to be a star. He just needed the right project, the right timing, right material. Now that he’s back in ABS-CBN, I’m excited for him because he has so much to offer. His victory and his success is our success, as well,” Piolo said.
With his busy schedule, Piolo finds it hard to go back to theater even if he wants to. He revealed getting offers to do plays but he lacks time.
“I always try going back, it’s just that because of schedule mahirap bumalik. But I have always been open about doing stage because that’s where I started. Teatro is 40 years old and you get to see other students now doing what I was doing before. You want to encourage them and just be visible. Madami ng nagbibigay sa akin, mga musicals. But it’s really the schedule because it takes at least two months to rehearse. ’Yung mga plays, I’ve got so many scripts already,” he said.
Many are also interested who will be Piolo’s date to the annual Star Magic Ball. It has been years since Piolo has gone with one. Will Shaina Magdayao finally break the chain?
“If there’s anyone naman, Shaina and I have been going there, not as a couple or together but we’ve always ended up looking for each other. So it has become a yearly tradition. With due respect to her, if she’s not gonna be with anyone, I’ll be there with her. It’s really a night to get together,” he said.
Piolo has a full schedule but he makes sure to find time for his charity, the Hebreo Foundation.
Cycle and run
The SunPiology Duo consists of the Sun Life Cycle Ph on Nov. 18 and Sun Life Resolution Run on Jan. 20.
“We get to ride with my fellow Star Magic artists. We’re able to help many kids. I thank Sun Life for that because we get to support many people. With the help of Sun Life, we add more students. It’s not just tuition fees. You don’t set them up for education but we also set them for the future. We give them allowance. Marami na sa kanilang nagtatrabaho na. Some of them have already graduated and working na. We keep on inquiring new scholars because of the SunPiology event. I don’t see myself slowing down in making these events and making it grow because babalik din naman iyon sa iyo. You want them to have a good future,” he said.
The cycling event is open to kids and adults up to 65 years old. The Bid2Bike event also allows participants to bike with Tour de France winner Robbie McEwen, Piolo, and other Star Magic artists.
