She got the nation singing “Mr. Right” the last time she came out with an album. Will Kim Chiu do it again with one of her new songs from the just-released follow-up?

Titled “Chinita Princess: Touch Of Your Love” from Star Music, the album marks her 11th year in show business.

Although still admittedly surprised over her success as singer, Kim was nevertheless more hands-on in choosing the tracks here.

“Parang nasa Miss Universe kami na o sa kantang ’to 5 points, sa kantang ’to 9 point,” she recalled when asked about the process of selection.

Kim, a contralto – though she probably doesn’t even know it – is not out to change the music scene with her latest offering. Instead, the recording is in the frothy vein of “Mr. Right.”

“’Pag nahanap mo na si ‘Mr. Right’ masasabi mong ‘Okay Na Ako’ kaya ’yun ’yung karugtong,” she said, referring to the title of this album’s promotional song.

The other tracks are “’Wag Kang Makulit,” “Ipadarama,” “Katok” and “Yun Na, You Na.”

Happiness is contagious

The singer-actress revealed she chooses love songs based on what she feels would spread good vibes.

I’m a happy person kasi,” she said. Right’ nila para makanta nila ’yung ‘Okay Na Ako.’”

When was the last time she was not okay, a blogger asked.

“Years ago,” Kim said. I’ve been there pero okay na ako ngayon.”

Exploring, learning

Though Kim is known as pop singer, she hopes to perform R&B tracks in the future.

She believes the only thing needed is the right material that suits her voice.

Kim remains humble about her singing abilities.

“Inaamin ko naman po na hindi po ako singer pero I’m proud to say na I’m an entertainer. I want to entertain people with my voice.”

Among music artists she looks up to are Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.

Does she dream of holding a concert at a big venue like MOA someday?

“Parang alanganin. Nakakahiya,” she said.

Her next step is learning to write songs.

Intimidated

Kim revealed that even though she’s been in the industry for more than a decade now, she still feels nervous performing at times.

She recalled a scenario when she sang her song live on “ASAP.”

“Umiyak ako after, nanginginig ’yung kamay ko. Na ‘Ah kailan pa matatapos ang kanta ’to,’” she shared.

However, Kim is thankful to the variety show as it gives her the platform to improve her skill as singer, dancer and host.

“Sobrang malaking tulong talaga ’yung ‘ASAP’ sa pag-build ng confidence ko,” she said. Sobrang nakaka-overwhelm.”

Kim thanked her fans whom she credited for her success.

Hindi naman everyday may kukuha sayo at matutuwa sa ginagawa mo so ako I take everyday as a blessing na rin.” (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
