Director Cathy Garcia-Molina expressed admiration for all her actors in “Seven Sundays,” Star Cinema’s latest offering now drawing crowds in nationwide theaters, but she was especially in praise of Dingdong Dantes, Cristine Reyes and Donita Rose’s performances.
The three are the lead stars in the family dramedy along with Aga Muhlach, Enrique Gil and Ronaldo Valdez.
Between laughters, Cathy was candid and honest in saying that the first time she saw Kapuso star Dingdong Dantes in a movie, she wasn’t impressed at all. In fact, she was quite severe in his criticism of him. “I really didn’t like him, but after working with him in ‘Seven Sundays,’ ang galing pala niya! Kabaliktaran ang nangyari. I loved Dingdong since the first day of our shooting. Beyond all his awards and trophies, I really appreciated Dingdong, I’m so proud of him and his performance in this movie.”
Cathy expounded on her appreciation of Dingdong by adding “Lumevel siya! Sumabay siya, kay Aga, sa lahat. About attitude, walang-wala siya! Never na dumating siya na parang pagod at parang ayaw ng magtrabaho…”
Dingdong is happy and honored to have been chosen to play a key role in this movie, which Direk Cathy referred to as the second to the last movie that she’s doing before her self-imposed retirement two years from now. She’s retiring in behalf of her family, for which she wants to give her full time to, she said.
“I am retiring in two years time to give time to my family. I have given a lot to the industry. I’m doing one more movie for Star Cinema.”
Dingdong is a Kapuso, actually he is dubbed the “Kapuso Primetime King,” but he has been doing movies under Star Cinema. In fact, “Seven Sundays” is his 8th Star Cinema movie. The last film he did for Star Cinema was “The Unmarried Wife” where he teamed up with Angelica Panganiban in 2016. In 2012, Dingdong and Angelica first worked together in the critically acclaimed movie “One More Try.”
In “Seven Sundays,” Dingdong plays Bryan, the second among four estranged siblings who are forced to get back together by their dying father, Manuel Bonifacio (Ronaldo Valdez). Bryan felt he wasn’t important to his family so he feels vindicated now that his family needs him.
“Bryan is out to prove his worth and the importance of the role he plays in his family and he will learn a lot of things in his journey to self re-discovery, “ Dingdong described his role.
Dingdong also expressed “honor and privilege for working with Direk Cathy, Aga, Enrique, Cristine, and Tito Ronaldo in ‘Seven Sundays.’
