For the first time, the most prestigious Korean music awards show will be held in the Philippines.
All Access Production and HM Entertainment announced that the 32nd Golden Disc Awards (GDA) will be held in Manila for two days on Jan. 10 and 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
About 24 to 28 K-pop stars from boy bands, girl groups to solo artists are expected to grace the awards show that recognizes singers in the physical album and digital song areas.
It’s the first time the Philippines will play host to a Korean awards show and the fourth time that the GDA will be held outside Korea. The GDA was held in Osaka, Japan in 2012; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2013; and Beijing, China in 2015.
At a press conference, Steven Ko of HM Entertainment, and Alfredo delos Santos and Nina Tay of All Access Production (AAP) announced the holding of the GDA in Manila.
“All Access Production together with HM Entertainment, in partnership with LUMOS E&M and JTBC, proudly presents the biggest and grandest Korean Awards that will go down on the Korean Entertainment History of the Philippines,” according to an online post by AAP.
Korean actors and actresses will also be in GDA Manila as presenters of the awards and prizes.
Organized by the Music Industry Association of Korea, the GDA started in 1986 and is the longest running music awards show in Korea.
AAP said the GDA will also hold special events for lucky fans and event goers like fan activities, sponsor booths and the much-awaited red carpet ceremony before the show.
At the 31st GDA held last January, EXO bagged the Disk Daesang or Album of the Year for their “Ex’Act” album while TWICE won the Digital Daesang or Digital Song of the Year for “Cheer Up.” Others winners included BTS, Red Velvet, NCT 127, Kim Jaejoong and CNBLUE.
A ticket pre-selling event will be held on Nov. 26 at Eastwood City Mall. Organizers said ticket prices to the GDA Manila are P12,000 for SVIP, P10,000 for VIP, P8,000 for Lower Box, P5,500 for Upper Box and P2,500 for General Admission.
