K-pop boy bands EXO and BTS won the Artist of the Year and Song of the Year, respectively, at the 2017 Melon Music Awards (MMA) held Dec. 2 in Seoul.
The Top 10 Artists recognized at the awards show were BTS, EXO, Wanna One, Big Bang, IU, Winner, Red Velvet, TWICE, Bolbbalgan4 and Heize.
EXO also won the Best Dance (Male) and Netizens’ Choice while EXO member Chen and Dynamic Duo won the Best Rap/Hip Hop award for “Nosedive.”
BTS, on the other hand, won the grand prize for their song “Spring Day” and also took home the Best Music Video for “DNA” and Global Artist Award while Suga and female solo artist Suran were recognized with the Hot Trend award for “Wine.”
Solo artist IU won the Best Album of the Year for “Palette” and Best Songwriter while Park Hyo Shin was given the Stage of the Year for “I Am a Dreamer.”
Rookie boy band Wanna One took home the Best New Artist and Kakao Hot Star awards while TWICE won the Best Dance (Female) for “Knock Knock.”
Other winners are: Best Ballad – Yoon Jong Shin; Best Rock – Min Kyung-hoon & Super Junior’s Kim Heechul; Best R&B/Soul – Suran; Best Indie – Melomance; Best Trot – Hong Jin Young and Kim Young Chul; Best Folk/Blues – Jung Eunji; Best Pop – Ed Sheeran; Best OST – Ailee for “I Will Go to You Like the First Snow” from “Goblin” drama OST; MBC Music Star Award – HyunA; and 1theK Performance Award – GFriend.
