The winning trio of Jen, Derek and Direk Dan returns to the Metro Manila Film Festival in a movie that tries to make sense of the deeper meaning of relationships and commitments

The Derek Ramsay-Jennylyn Mercado tandem first proved their box-office pull in the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “English Only, Please (EOP).” Three years later, they are at it again with the romantic-comedy film “All Of You.”

Talking to Bulletin Entertainment and other select members of the press recently, the two humbly said they are not “expecting” to bag acting awards like they did in “English Only, Please.”

“Hindi ako nag-e-expect na, ‘Ay gusto kong manalo ng ganito,’ kasi para sa akin basta ginawa ko lang ng maayos ’yung trabaho ko, masaya na ako du’n,” Jen said. “Lagi naman po kapag gumagawa ako ng pelikula – entry man ’yan o hindi – basta ginagawa ko lang palagi ’yung best ko so I think, bahala na sila kung paano ako i-ja-judge.”

Derek feels blessed to have the role and if ever, the hunky actor chooses box-office success over trophy.

“Our duty as actors is to bring life to the character that was given to us. Kung iisipin ko na gustong kong manalo ng best actor, I think hindi lalabas ng maganda ’yung mga eksena ko,” he explained. “If I won, that’s a bonus and I would be very very happy. If not, I’m still happy because we came up with a very good movie.”

Direk Dan Villegas simply hopes for the best.

“Siyempre lahat naman ay depende sa jury but nonetheless, proud at happy ako sa dalawang ’to. So yes, confident ako sa kanila,” he said.

Produced by Quantum Films in association with MJM Productions, “All Of You” also stars Yayo Aguila, Kean Cipriano, Nico Antonio, Via Antonio, Hannah Ledesma, Milo Elmido, Enzo Marcos, Kelvin Yu, and Kate Alejandrino.

“All Of You” is different from the previous Jen-Derek film in that it is said to be more daring. It’s about two souls, Gab (Derek) and Gabby (Jen), who have conflicting views on love and marriage.

According to the award-winning director, “All Of You” tries to make sense of the deeper meaning of relationships and commitments.

“Mas malalim siya compared sa ‘EOP.’ Like si Derek, mas stiff ’yung role niya before. Ang atake namin du’n is mas pa-comedy, mas pa-kilig. With this film, mas totoo siya, mas focused sa reality ng relasyon,” he explained.

The challenge for him is to let Jen show her “range” as actress.

“Tatlong beses na kaming nag-sama sa pelikula so makita ’yung pagbabago niya from Jologs sa ‘EOP’ to Mia na writer sa ‘Walang Forever’ and to Gabby na medyo analitikal na tao dito sa ‘All Of You,” he said.

How daring is daring? Jen revealed she has four to five “intense” bed scenes with Derek.

She added their partnership leveled up 10 times more.

“Medyo matagal kaming hindi nagkita eh, so nu’ng nagkita kami ulit, this time iba naman ’yung atake,” she divulged. “Mabigat ’yung mga eksena eh, buti na lang napaka-ingat niya at talagang pinrotektahan niya ako.”

Of marriage

If there’s one lesson moviegoers will learn from the movie, Jen and Derek said it is about the importance of commitment and marriage.

“Dito kasi sa film, ’yung isa gustong magpakasal, ’yung isa hindi pa ready. Eventually nagkahiwalay, but as they try to save the relationship, papakasalan na eh that’s not the solution. You should really take time before committing,” she said.

Derek agreed.

“You should really take your time so that when you jump in, it will not be a mistake. A lot of people jump into a marriage not saying na one week pa lang silang magkakilala. For me, I want to take it step by step para when I finally do make a decision… I’m totally ready for what marriage is all about,” he said.

Speaking of which, we asked Jen and Derek if they are now ready for marriage with their respective paramours and they gave different answers.

Derek revealed he is now at the stage of his life where he sees himself settling down. He is in a relationship with model Joanne Villablanca.

“I’m ready na. The right timing na lang but me as a whole, sure na ako,” he admitted.

Jen, who is in relationship with Dennis Trillo, is not yet ready saying, she still has a lot of things to do.

“I think kahit gaano pa kayo katagal ’pag feel mo na magpakasal, magpapakasal ka na eh. Ako hindi pa ako ready now. Marami pa akong gustong gawin, gusto ko pa mag-enjoy at higit sa lahat, maliit pa ’yung anak ko,” she said.
