They say the early bird catches the worm and some of our favorite stars can tell you all about it.
The morning people include celeb moms Ana Roces and Maricar de Mesa, as well as lovely couple Solenn Heussaff and Nico Bolzico. In an interview at the recent Golden Fiesta Heart Healthy Camp, wherein they engaged health buffs, competed in circuit training, and sweat it out with other camp participants, they said waking up at the crack of dawn affords them enough time for their parental duties and their beauty and fitness routines.
Ana, at 41, looks fresh and radiant like she was back in her “That’s Entertainment” days. She makes sure she gets eight to nine hours of sleep every day as she’s up by 5 a.m. on weekdays to bring her kids to school.
And when she’s taping a series?
“Kapag hindi ko eksena, I make sure to sleep,” she said.
She doesn’t do anything “special” to maintain her beautiful face and toned body. It’s all product of a healthy lifestyle; certainly no alcohol, no cigarette for this lady.
Ana does exercise and zumba, two to three times a week.
“I workout with light weight tapos I regularly get facial care treatments din,” she said.
As for food intake, Ana has shifted to eating brown rice, wheat breads and less fatty meats.
Though admitting she also has “cheat days,” the actress eats anything in moderation. Luckily, her son loves eating healthy food too so Ana doesn’t have to prepare different food for him.
Ana does workshops on professional styling, which includes “How To’s” on dressing properly and corporate etiquettes. She graduated from a distance learning course in Image Mastery.
“I’m always being asked kasi like ‘How do you maintain, what’s your secret to keeping fit?’ So siguro I like to share what I know through these (workshops). To share my knowledge and help people feel better about themselves.”
Maricar gave birth four months ago and as part of her mommy duties, she wakes same time as her baby.
“Sanay kami sa maagang gising. That’s our routine talaga and we try to sleep early also but etong past three weeks, since I’m back to work, medyo naghahabol ako ng tulog,” she said.
At the interview, we told Maricar she is the epitome of “parang hindi nanganak” figure and her post pregnancy weight is really envy-worthy.
Her secret? Being physically active.
“Actually, CS (caesarian) kasi ako and six months ’yung binigay ng doctor (na rest period) bago ako maging active ulit physically,” she admitted. “But sabi ko sa kanya, malakas na ako at kaya ko na. So ngayon nagwo-work out na ulit ako.”
Maricar eats less fatty food and lots of brown rice and quinoa for her diet.
According to the actress, having a baby is no excuse to look “losyang.” She believes it’s all a matter of discipline and eagerness to have a healthy lifestyle.
“As long as you feel ready ka na – you know, physically and mentally – get back in shape. Kasi hindi lang ’yan for physical appearance eh, kasi sa loob din (counts) and it helps a lot,” she explained. “In my case, I was very active before I got pregnant so hinahanap-hanap ng system ko ’yun (to be active) again.”
“And nakatulong ’yung pagiging physically active ko sa pag-control ng mood swings ko. Kasi napansin ko if I don’t work out, nagiging cranky ako, masungit ako. So kailangan ng exercise and proper diet,” she added.
The “Pusong Ligaw” actress is in cloud nine over being a first-time mom. She describes the feeling as “heaven” and a “very good experience.”
“Ang sarap ng feeling. Ngayon ko lang naiintindihan ’yung mga sinasabi ng friends ko. Medyo old na din kasi ako nagka-baby. Hindi ko ma-explain pero lahat ng pagod, mawawala (kapag nakita ko siya),” she enthused.
As for the baby’s father, Maricar remains evasive talking about his identity, saying he is not from show business.
And marriage? Not yet.
“We’ve been together for two years. We both came from divorce and I just got annulled this year. So what’s the rush ’di ba? Right now, we just want to focus on the baby. Gusto muna namin enjoy-in ’tong phase na ito.”
Spice up your relationship by working out with your partner, just like model-actress Solenn and husband Nico do.
No wonder they are the peg by many for couple goals on staying fit and healthy.
According to Solenn, they are up between 5 and 6 a.m. and to rise past 8 a.m. is unusual for them.
“We’re really used to doing that. It’s very normal for us. ’Pag nasa gym kami, we do our own thing. We’re not in the same phase always, like he does push up, I’ll do squats. Hindi sabay. But he is competitive in other things,” Solenn said when asked about their gym routines.
The actress-singer advises everyone to keep everything in balance, saying too much of anything can harm their body.
“You should know your stamina. If you feel tired then listen to your body and stop. Don’t push it too much,” she noted.
Solenn also shared her personal fitness routines in her book and on her blog (solenn.ph).
“I want to be an ambassador for that (keeping fit). I love helping people to be motivated,” she said.
Nico, the ever “makulit and cool” guy, said he married “the hottest girl on earth,” that’s why he also needs to be fit and pretty for Solenn, as in all the time.
“If I let go of my diet, she’s gonna let me go, too,” he quipped. “Every time I work out, I feel energized. I feel my body is cleaner.”
Solenn doesn’t feel pressured to have a baby asap. “In the future pa siya (baby). Not really right now,” said she.
This Christmas, the two are “separating” again. Nico will go to Argentina while Solenn will be in the country for work.
It’s a “cool” setup, we told the couple.
“Sometimes it’s okay to be split. You know, to have a time and space (away from each other),” Nico said.
Solenn agreed, “Yeah, that’s our agreement ever since we became together.” (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
