Winners at the 32nd Golden Disc Awards



K-pop boy band BTS and solo artist IU were the biggest winners at the 32nd Golden Disc Awards (GDA) at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Ilsan in Gyeonggi province in South Korea.

The first day honored winners in the digital music category while the second day awarded artists in the album category.

BTS won the daesang, or grand prize, in the album category while IU took home the grand prize in the digital music category.

“’You’re watching, right? I really love you. Yesterday, at the digital music category of Golden Disc, we picked a fortune cookie that said the curtain will be pulled down and light will shine on us in 2018. I think this priceless award will be our first light,” BTS member RM told fans in his acceptance speech, according to KBS.

J-Hope said that “our achievements in 2017 start to feel real since we received this award. It’s an honor.”

Jungkook thanked his mother “for bringing me into this world and raising me. I love you.’

In the album category, the winners of the disc bonsang or main prize are BTS, EXO, NU’EST W, Monsta X, Hwang Chi Yeol, Seventeen, TWICE, GOT7, Taeyeon, Girls’ Generation and Super Junior.

EXO also won the Genie Music Popularity Award, Global Popularity Award and Ceci Asia Icon Award along with TWICE. The bests original soundtrack (OST) award went to Ailee for “I Will Go to You Like the First Snow,” the theme song for the hit drama “Goblin.”

In the digital music category, IU won the grand prize and mentioned the late SHINee member Jonghyun in her speech, saying, “Honestly, I’m still very sad. I had to let go of someone who was so precious to me as a person, as a friend, and as a musician.”

The digital bonsang or main prize went to IU, Black Pink, Heize, Bolbbalgan4, Akdong Musician, TWICE, Winner, Big Bang, Yoon Jong Shin, Red Velvet and BTS.

Wanna One won the best new artist award while BTOB and G-Friend bagged the best the best male and female groups, respectively. Suran won the best R&B soul award while Hyukoh grabbed the best rock band.
