Three weeks that's all sisters Rachel and Barni Alejandro ask to see noticeable shift from flab to fab



Summer comes and celebrities welcome it by flaunting their sexy bikini bods on social media even this early in the game. And their secret is no secret at all: It’s almost always the demanding tandem of healthy diet and exercise over, let’s admit it, a long period of time that does the trick.

But what if singer-actress Rachel Alejandro and her sister, Chef Barni Alejandro-Rennebeck of The Sexy Chef, tell you it only takes 21 days to start seeing results in weight loss? Will you give it a try?

In an interview, Rachel pointed out that, first, being sexy is a mindset. It is about being confident and feeling good about your body.

Then she noted that when it comes to sticking to a healthy eating plan, convenience in preparation is the key. She said many people fail to reach their weight loss goal because their eating choices do not fit their lifestyles.

The two advise people to eat from all food groups in moderation while slowly adding more vegetables to their everyday meals. Barni said it is important to always make the body feel full.

For 21 days, stay away from processed food, Rachel said. It is okay to have soda, fries and burgers once in a while as long as it’s in moderation. She reminded those in a diet that pigging out on “cheat days” will only make things harder for them.

“Some people say they will diet from Monday to Friday, and then cheat on Saturday and Sunday. So whatever they lost in those five days, they will just get it back eh,” she explained. “Kadalasan ’yung gumagawa ng ganyan, hindi sila nagtatagumpay kasi binabalik lang nila eh (lahat ng nawala na fats). In our experience, it takes three weeks really for you to see any kind of physical obvious changes (sa weight) so if you go on cheat days, wala din. Sayang lang.”
The Sexy Chefs have “fat-fighting four” ingredients when creating diet meals. These are fiber, omega 3 fatty acids, calcium and vitamin D.

Barni said no diet fits all. While your favorite stars engage in say, Ketogenic diet (a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet plan), it does not mean everyone should follow.

“Hindi lahat ay okay sa Ketogenic. First off is you have to listen to your body. Actually ang unang tanong palagi sa akin sa amin ay: ‘What is the fastest diet plan?’ or ‘Ano ’yung mas effective.’ But the right question should be, ‘Which diet plan is good for me?’”

Rachel and Barni advise everyone to consult a physician first before going on a diet.

“You have to call and consult first kasi they will ask you what are your activities, if you do have allergies on certain food. If you do have existing medical condition then by all means, consult physician first.

“We at The Sexy Chef have costumer care specialist and they are all registered dietician so they can help you choose which meal plan suits you kasi we all have different lifestyles, so meron talagang nutritionist na tiga-sagot ng mga tanong,” Rachel said.


Rachel and Barni are pioneers in healthy food service in the country, establishing The Sexy Chef in 2004.

Chef Barni, who is also a pre-school teacher, started the business by selling bottles of her diet meal plans to her family and friends. It expanded to a delivery service, health bar and, finally, the delivery service. The meals are combined with the popular juice cleanses prepared by nutritionist Nadine Tengco.

Rachel and Barni recently launched their third book “21 Days To A Sexier You” under ABS-CBN Publishing.

Describing food as one of life’s greatest pleasures, the sisters encourage readers to get to their best shape by harnessing a force much powerful than self-discipline – desire.

“The first books we released focused on just having a healthy lifestyle but this time, we really wanted to include recipes that include fat fighting nutrients that will help get rid of baby fats and help lose weight,” Barni noted. “Sa totoo lang din naman, we know ’yun talaga ang gustong mabasa ng mga readers, ’yung how to lose weight so we finally came up with this one.”
