The IdeaFirst Company has released two films this January. These are “Mr. & Mrs. Cruz,” a collaboration with VIVA Films, and “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes” produced with Quantum Films and Star Cinemas and which was reported to have grossed P120 million already.
Will The IdeaFirst Company continue its slew of successes with “My Fairy Tail Love Story?” The movie opens today in cinemas and it stars Janella Salvador and Elmo Magalona.
“Sinuwerte lang kami kasi marami kaming sinimulan noong 2017 na ngayon nagsunod-sunod lumabas,” remarked its director Perci Intalan on the films of The IdeaFirst Company.
Produced with Regal Entertainment Inc. and Regal Multimedia Inc., the director feels “My Fairy Tail Love Story” has its drawing powers too. It’s top billed by one of the country’s popular love team, and it’s a mermaid movie.
According to Perci, the concept of a mermaid movie came from his hubby, Jun Lana. Their brainstorming resulted in creating a film far from the predictable mermaid movies that Filipinos have grown to know and cherish.
“Babaliin talaga namin yung mga nakasanayan ng mga taong mapanuod sa isang mermaid movie,” explained Perci. “Yun ang naging guiding principle ng movie na ito kaya masaya naming ginawa. We enjoyed making this movie.”
It was also Jun Lana who first helmed the movie but because of conflict of schedules, Perci finished it.
“Nagkapatong-patong na yung schedule because Jun was scheduled to do another movie. So nag-usap kami and since I was there from the start, sabi ni Jun saluhin ko na. He gave me confidence kasi yung material malapit sa akin dahil mala-Disney siya. The five sequences Jun shot were retained in the finished film,” shared Perci.
“My Fairy Tail Love Story” is about Chantel (Janella Salvador) who one day woke up a mermaid because her bratty ways disturbed sea coral formations. She then asked the help of her best friend Noah (Elmo Magalona) to break the curse. In the process she eyes a DJ played by Kiko Estrada, as the answer to her woes. She believed that a kiss from him would break her curse.
Perci described Janella as a revelation as Chantel. For him, she would go lengths portraying her role.
“Yun ang kwela kay Janella kasi she embraced her character. Ang nakakatawa kay Janella, wala siyang takot magmukhang tanga. Maarte yung character niya and ang complication sa character kasi ni Chantel ay isa siyang ‘bratinela.’ Hindi siya yung immediately lovable na babae. In fact medyo nakakainis nga siya kasi suplada, maldita, selfish, lahat noong elements pero may matutunan din eventually sa dulo,” he described.
