With tears marking her heart-warming performance, KZ Tandingan received a standing ovation after she sang ‘Say something’ on the show ‘Singer 2018’ in China.
Tandingan was accompanied on stage by her long-time guitarist and friend, Macoy Portado, while she sang the song popularized by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera.
The Filipino singer admitted that the song wasn’t her first choice.
The show’s producers changed her song the night before her performance.
“Nagpalit lang sila ng kanta the night before, so medyo nagulantang ako. Pero at least, ‘yung pinalit na kanta – sila na ‘yung pumili, e – medyo alam ko.” Tandingan said.
Even though she was quite familiar with the song ‘Say something’, the producers wanted her to have a new arrangement for it.
“Kaya lang, pinabago pa rin nila ‘yung arrangement. So parang 6 a.m., nag-aareglo pa kami para lang mayroon akong makanta noong gabi,” Tandingan added.
For the seventh episode of ‘Singer 2018’, Tandingan ranked fourth out of the eight international contenders, including her idol, British pop singer Jessie J.
Before the announcement, she wasn’t feeling at ease because the response of the audience wasn’t the same unlike her first two performances on the show.
The Chinese audience hyped up on her first appearance on episode 5 where she sang her own version of Adele’s ‘Rolling in the deep’ mixed with Filipino rap, which gave her recognition as she took the top spot.
For the sixth episode, Tandingan sang a medley of Joker Xue’s ‘What else do you want from me?’ and Wang Leehom’s ‘All the Things You Never Knew’, which were in Mandarin.
“Yung reaction ng mga tao noong nag-Mandarin ako, parang mas maingay, compared doon sa ‘Say Something’ na performance, so feeling ko, ‘Oh my gosh, baka mas mababa sa rank six ‘yung ranking ko.’ Sobrang unpredictable talaga, e.” Tandingan stated.
She was surprised being on the fourth place for this week.
The Filipino singer is aiming to be within the top 4 spots of ‘Singer 2018’ before the live finale which will be aired on April 13, 2018.
