Today, March 14, Koreans are celebrating White Day, a counterpart event of Valentine’s Day, where men “confess and express (their) love and affection for that special someone by giving her candies and gifts.”
“The customary gifts on White Day are candy, not chocolate, jewelry, flowers, or dolls. Many men also highlight this day with romantic dinners and events. If one should forget this day and offer nothing to his significant other, he may not hear the end of it for a while,” according to the Korea Tourism Organization.
In celebration of the occasion, Korean online survey company PMI conducted a survey and asked 4,000 men and women which celebrities they want to spend White Day with.
About 2,000 women aged 20s to 40s were asked to pick male Korean celebrities from whom they want to receive candy.
Drama “Goblin” and film “Train to Busan” star Gong Yoo topped the survey, garnering 15.2 percent or about 304 votes. Park Bogum of “Love in the Moonlight” came a close second with 15.1 percent followed by “Descendants of the Sun” star Song Joong Ki with 3.7 percent.
Gong Yoo was No. 1 among women in their 40s with 17.9 percent while Park Bogum was the top choice of women in their 20s with 17.2 percent.
Among the 2,000 male respondents, 10.5 or 210 of them picked singer and actress Suzy as the top female Korean celebrity they want to give candy to. AOA member Seolhyun came second with 7.9 percent followed by singer IU with 5.5 percent, actress Park Shin Hye with 3.1 percent and actress Han Ji Min with 2.8 percent.
