Comedy actor Dennis Padilla has broken his silence over the controversy involving his daughter Julia Barretto and her on-screen partner and rumored boyfriend Joshua Garcia.
In an interview, he admitted feeling let down by it all.
“Siyempre anak mo ’yun.”
“Anyway kung ano man ’yung problema niyo dahil matatanda na naman kayo, alam niyo na ’yung dapat gawin,” he added.
Recall that the fans recently speculated the pair broke up after Joshua complimented a female netizen on Instagram by sending the latter a private message which she then shared by publicly.
The 20-year-old actor had clarified the story in an interview on “Tonight With Boy Abunda.” Joshua said he and Julia had a “misunderstanding” but they were able to sort things out.
According to Dennis, he watched that episode and he felt Joshua’s sincerity.
I remembered the phrase, ‘Joshua you have my respect.’ So nu’ng sinabi ni Boy Abunda ’yun sabi ko ‘Okay, approve,’” he shared.
Although he hasn’t talked to the young actor as of time of interview, Dennis divulged that he has open communication lines with him.
“Once in a while I also greet him na ‘Oh kamusta na anak?’ May ganu’n. And nagte-text din naman siya sa akin. There’s one time nga nu’ng nag-e-edit ako ng ‘The Barker’ nu’ng October nag-text pa siya (Joshua) sa akin na ‘Tito Dennis I’ll send you something.’
With everything that happened, Dennis has this message for Joshua: “Usap tayo ’pag may time ka. Tawagan mo ako o kaya text mo ako. Magkita tayo. Gusto kitang makausap.”
He cleared he just wants to have a man-to-man talk with the young actor.
“Kaya nga may man-to-man talk that’s more than a contract. Sabihin niya ‘Sorry Tito Dennis nagkamali ako,’” he said if the speculations are true.
Prior to Joshua’s interview on “Tonight With Boy Abunda,” Dennis asked his daughter about the rumors.
“There was a portion ng conversation namin na wala akong alam kaya lang maraming nagkukwento sa akin during the Holy Week so siyempre hindi naman ako basta naniniwala so gusto kong magtanong. ‘Oh kamusta nagkikita pa ba kayo ni Joshua?’ Diretso tinanong ko agad tapos sabi niya ‘Oo naman, P, kaya lang busy ako sa work, busy siya sa taping,’” he recalled that conversation of him with his daughter.
Dennis said he felt Julia didn’t want to discuss it further so he dropped it.
Although he’s hands off on the issue, Dennis did offer advice to his daughter during the interview: “’Pag ka alam mong hindi ka na masaya umalis ka na diyan.
From his failed relationship with Julia’s mom, Marjorie Barretto, Dennis continue to share advice to the young stars.
In any case, amid the controversy, Dennis said one thing is for sure “Alam kong mahal na mahal ng anak ko si Joshua.”
Dennis is cast in season 5 of the first sitcom on Philippine digital free TV, “Funny Ka, Pare Ko.”
His project prior was from way back, “Home Along Da Riles.”
On the new series, he plays a villain named Don Jovi, a corrupt real estate tycoon that will shake Carla and Bigboy’s world which is portrayed by Karla Estrada and Bayani Agbayani, respectively.
Kumbaga mayabang na mayaman at marami akong gustong makuha,” he said.
He is happy working with Karla and Bayani both of whom he had known for a long time.
Other new wctors that will join him on the show are “It’s Showtime’s” “Funny One” winner Donna Cariaga and co-finalists Anthony Andres and James Caraan.
CineMo’s “Funny Ka, Pare Ko” starts airing on April 29 on ABS-CBN TVplus.
