Childish Gambino’s song hits ignorance towards violence

Donald Glover just released a new song and video, “This Is America” which many believe is a scathing attack on America’s ignorance towards violence.

Directed by Hiro Murai, the graphic video showed Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, doing some blithesome dancing in one shot, then shooting people in the next.

The Rolling Stones described Gambino’s music video as a “surreal, visceral statement about gun violence in America.”

Meanwhile, TIME called the clip as a “stirring commentary” from Gambino.

The Grammy-winning artist also received praises from social media for his cryptic video.

“Mesmerizing. Disturbing. Violent. Beautiful. Tragic. Materialistic. Melodic. Chaotic,” said one Twitter user.

Another stated that ‘This Is America’ is a “take on how America is fundamentally ignorant and unjust to people of color and also how ignorant people of color can be of themselves.”

Twitter user @og__wright, likewise expressed admiration for the musician, calling him a genius.

“In the video, he Represents Jim Crow and his Dance moves which his entertainment distracts The Children and Us as viewers from the Riots and Chaos in the background. He is saying that is how America distracts the people,” the tweet read.

According to The Rolling Stone, ‘This Is America’ features vocals from ” Young Thug, 21 Savage, and Migos’ Quavo as well as Rae Sremmurd’s Slxm Jimmy and BlocBoy JB.”
