CCP presents 14th Cinemalaya edition

The 14th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, a joint undertaking with the Cultural Center of the Philippines headed by Nick Lizaso, starts on Aug. 3 and will run till Aug. 12, with the chosen films to be screened at various venues of the CCP and selected Ayala cinemas.

With the theme “Wings Of Vision,” the 10 full-length films competing for the grand awards are: “Distance” directed by Percival Intalan; “Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapit-Hapon” (Carlo Enciso Catu); “Kuya Wes” (James Robin Mayo); “Liway” (Kip Oebanda); “Mamang” (Denise O’Hara); “ML” (Benedict Mique Jr.); “Musmos Na Sumibol Sa Gubat Ng Dugma” (Iar Lionel Arondaing); “Pan De Salawal” (Che Espiritu); “School Service” (Luisito Lagdameo Ignacio), and “The Lookout” (Afi Africa).

There will also be 10 short films to be shown aside from the regular features: Dokyu, the documentary section; Best of the Festivals, which showcases the best films from local festivals; Indie Nation, featuring Independent films; and Visions of Asia, featuring award-winning Asian and Netpac films.

Cinemalaya will also pay tribute to Maryo J. delos Reyes through a special screening of his films “Bagets” and “Magnifico;” and Bernardo Bernardo by showing “Manila By Night” by Ishmael Bernal.

The Cinemalaya Awards Night will be held on Aug. 12 at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater).

‘Harry & Patty’

Cineko Productions’ “Harry & Patty,” which opens tomorrow in local cinemas, stars Ahron Villena and Kakai Bautista in the title roles. Directed by Julius Ruslin Alfonso (“Deadma Walking”) and written by Volta delos Santos, “Harry & Patty” is a romantic comedy “that proves even the biggest lie cannot stop real love from finding its way.”

The movie is about how true love brings out the beauty in a person, not just physically, but the beauty that emerges from each character as they share the virtue of life and happiness.

Also in the cast are Heaven Peralejo, Mark Neumann, Carmi Martin, Bodjie Pascua, Donna Liza Salvador Caraga, Joe Vargas, Lou Veloso and Soliman Cruz with the special participation of Arci Muñoz.
