Lani Misalucha was unable to hold back tears when asked to give Morissette Amon “warnings” on the pitfalls in the life of an in-demand singer.
“We have priorities in our life. If you think this is something you want to do for the next several years, then do it because this is what you love,” she told Morissette at the media huddle for “A Lani Morissette Musical Journey” concert set for Sept. 22 and 23 at The Theatre of Solaire.
Lani recalled her priority when she was starting was different as she already had a family then.
“Since I don’t think you’re gonna…since I think getting into a relationship at this time is not your priority, and I don’t think anytime soon you want to get married, you go ahead and mold your craft and your talent. I’m telling you, you already are a very good artist and you’re gonna go a long way.”
Her voice started cracking when she said, “Never forget that was given to you. God gave you that voice. It can be taken away from you in a snap. So you just got to be grateful and always acknowledge the one who gave you that. We have to be grateful all the time.”
Directly facing Morissette, Lani added, “Especially you, especially now that you’re travelling, you always have to ask for guidance and protection that you always have to be safe in everything you do.”
It’s speculated that Lani became protective because Morissette attended the press conference with hoarse speaking voice. The latter had just come from Dubai and, admittedly, the stress of work might be getting to her, perhaps even affecting her health.
In the past, several singers lost their voice temporarily, mostly due to working for days on end without sufficient rest.
Morissette admitted Lani has always been one of her inspirations.
“We see how she’s able to manage her life and we see her passion, her love for her family and how God-fearing she is. She shows us right now how she values her relationship with God. If that’s her priority, everything else will follow.”
“I think being a millennial, that’s something we should not forget those who support us from the very start, and of course, God who gave us this voice.”
Lani revealed that because of their conflicting schedules, “A Lani Morissette Musical Journey” was only finally realized two years after the idea was hatched.
She said she finds it interesting to work with someone half her age.
“It’s really amazing,” she said of Morissette’s singing skills, especially her whistle tone.
As for the show’s repertoire, the two sought suggestions from fans via Facebook live.
Some think Lani or Morissette might end up upstaging the other in the show but the former said it won’t happen.
Morissette said, “Why would we do that (overshadow the other)? We’re just here to perform and if one shines brighter than the other, I think it’s not intentional.”
Lani stressed the show will be a “beautiful night of beautiful songs,” no more and no less.
“This show is about the stories that happened in our life, the adventures that we went through to reach this certain point in our lives. That is what we want to share with our audience – our lives and our music.”
