Like many people, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Jr. turns to watching movies for relaxation. In a short interview, he said that he likes watching “Heneral Luna”–types and those that make it to local film festivals.
But just how strong is his showbiz connection? Well, he said he used to be neighbors with Claudine Barretto, and that he bumps into Renewed Christian Piolo Pascual at church from time to time. He is good friends with Annabelle Rama and the lawyer once had Ricardo Cepeda as client.
More: He reads showbiz blind items but “I don’t have enough grip para mahulaan, parang pare-pareho lang naman,” he said.
But seriously now, Sec. Harry’s interest in the local movie industry goes beyond leisure or star-spotting. He’s been in talks with Actor’s Guild president Imelda Papin to find ways on how the government can further help the entertainment industry. One of the items on their agenda is to increase incentives for foreign film outfits to encourage more of them to shoot in the Philippines. Indeed, if that happens, it will be added boost to achieving our national tourism goals.
Hopefully, like in the movie world, it’s coming soon.
