Seasoned director Erik Matti has no part in the much-awaited remake of iconic movie “Darna” from hereon.
In a recent press statement released by Kane Errol Choa, the head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, he announced that Jerrold Tarog will take Matti’s place.
“We welcome Jerrold’s fresh take, innovative ideas, and signature directorial style to make Darna’s return to the big screen a rare cinematic experience for moviegoers,” part of the statement read.
ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and Matti have mutually decided to part ways in filming it because of “creative differences.”
They added that they wanted to allow the filmmaker to work on his other projects under his own production company Reality Entertainment.
Matti wrote on his social media account: “I have officially resigned from the movie ‘Darna. ‘It’s been five years and how I wish I could have finished it after all the hard work that went into preparing and putting it together. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out ideally for both parties.”
He shared that the iconic film is really personal to him as “my first project in the industry was as continuity supervisor for Peque Gallaga’s ‘Darna’ with Anjanette Abayari.”
“And doing this modern reboot of the classic superhero, I feel that I have come full circle in this industry,” he noted.
He extended his gratitude to “Darna” actress Liza Soberano for the “dedication and commitment,” adding how sure he is that the latter will be a “kickass Darna.”
