The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) executive committee has announced the complete list of entries for 2018, the so-called “Magic 8.”
The first four official films chosen from script submissions were released last June. The last four were selected from 16 finished film submissions.
All entries were evaluated based on 40% artistic excellence; 40% commercial appeal; 10% promotion of Filipino cultural and historical values; and 10% global appeal.

The committee said productions can now start their promotional efforts.
The “Parade Of Stars” is on Dec. 23. Colorful floats of each entry will make their way through the streets of Parañaque. The annual MMFF parade will coincide with the 20th Cityhood Celebration of Parañaque.
The MMFF 2018 Executive Committee also announced the 16 semi-finalists from the record-high of 123 student short film submissions from all over the country.
They are given R20,000 grant each to make their short films. It will be trimmed to the final eight entries, each paired with any one of the full-length films. The short film selection will be announced in the third week of November.
Now on its 44th year, MMFF runs from Christmas day up to first week of January. It aims to promote local films and bring families closer during the holidays.
The MMFF 2018 awards night is on Dec. 27 at The Theatre at Solaire.
