Korean-pop group BTS or “Bangtan Boys” – composed of Jungkook, V, Jimin, Suga, Jin, J-Hope, and Rap Monster – have been winning fans with their appeal and music, including Filipino celebrities Kris Aquino, Lea Salonga, Anne Curtis, and Iñigo Pascual.
Then there’s Andrea Brillantes.
Calling herself a “newbie fan,” the young actress has posted a video of herself singing and dancing to BTS’ “Fake Love.” She has been following the K-pop group for almost a year now and among her “biases” are Rap Monster and Jungkook.
“They are so handsome and they make me happy!” she enthused.
However, Andrea has been getting hate from several BTS fans, deeming her as merely “jumping on the bandwagon.”
Not true, she said.
“I love BTS genuinely. So I hope they won’t hate me just because I do. Let’s all love them.”
On Liza, Darren-JK
At 15, Andrea is considered one of the prettiest stars of her generation. Some even noted her close resemblance to Liza Soberano.
It’s not that she hates the compliment, but the actress said in jest: “It’s embarrassing!”
“I don’t see the resemblance po,” she laughed. “Ate Liza is so pretty and I feel shy being compared to her. But to those who say that, thank you so much. It’s an honor.”
We then asked her to weigh in on the recent Darren Espanto-JK Labajo issue. Andrea is friends with both of them.
“All I can say is we should stop the hate. I hope they stop fighting na. Let’s just love each other.”
New movie, teleserye
Talking about showbiz work, Andrea is one of the lead stars of the Viva movie “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na.”
It is about three girls who cross path then realize fate brought them together when all were drawn to the beautiful province of Samar. Andrea is Ally, an aspiring composer. She is joined by Empress Schuck as Joey, an independent fashion designer. Kristel Fulgar is Mikee, a hopeless romantic food and travel blogger.
Andrea finds her role quite challenging.
“In the film, Ally is 18 years old. She’s a grown up. I’m only 15 years old in real life so I actually have had to do some adjusting,” she explained. “Another thing, my role is that of an aspiring singer. In real life, I don’t sing, let alone play guitar.”
Still, she promised the film has twists and turns that will “shock” the viewers.
Directed by Bona Fajardo, “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na” is produced by VIVA Films, BluArt Productions, Spark Samar, and Saga Prefecture Film Commission. The movie opens in cinemas on Dec. 5.
Andrea stars on ABS-CBN’s afternoon series “Kadenang Ginto.” She plays Marga, a bully.
“I’m not a bully in real life,” she laughed. “I find it hard to do Marga because she’s always angry. She’s always in the bad mood. It’s hard to be a kontrabida.”
Andrea admitted she got bullied growing up.
“I even got depressed at one point,” she revealed.
There were also times she wanted to just quit showbiz.
“When I was younger, I kept on auditioning for roles, for commercials but I always got rejected. So I told myself, maybe this is not the right journey for me,” she shared. “Thankfully, I have confidence now and I realize I only just to have wait for the right moment.”
As for her dream role, Andrea wants to be “DarBel” – a Darna and Dyesebel in one character. She also wants to be an action star.
