Momoland on Manila fan meet in January, success in 2018 and beyond

Momoland is one of the K-pop groups that achieved success this year.

Their song “BBoom BBoom” spawned a dance craze around the world including the Philippines where celebrities were seen dancing to the single.

In Korea, “BBoom BBoom” was the first song from a female artist to be certified Platinum in the streaming category by the Gaon Music Chart for getting 100 million streams. On YouTube, the song’s music video has garnered 291 million views to date since Jan. 3.

On Dec. 10, Momoland’s Nancy, Hyebin, Daisy, JooE, Ahin, Jane and Taeha met with the media at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center to talk about their upcoming Manila fan meeting, success in 2018 and plans for 2019.

The group will be holding their Momoland Fan Meeting in Manila on Jan. 25 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“We are preparing a lot of different performances for our Philippine Merries for our fan meeting at the beginning of the year next year and they’ll get to see some different performances that you have never seen before. I hope you that Philippine Merries are excited as we are,” promised Daisy.

Momoland is very popular in the Philippines and the fan meeting will allow the girl group to get up close and personal with fans.

“We are very happy and excited for this event. We chose Momoland because they are being loved by so many Filipinos now because of their hit songs,” said Yong-tae Shim, CEO of YT E&M, which is partnering with DnM Entertainment in holding the Manila fan meeting.

Momoland first visited the country last August and they said they’re happy to be back for the second time.

“I am overwhelmed with the popularity of Momoland here in the Philippines. And in our second visit, it’s still hot as our first meeting so we’re so happy to meet Philippine fans again,” said Jane.

While in the Philippines, Momoland visited Vigan and performed on “Showtime.”

“We actually got to learn a lot about the culture of Vigan. It was very good time and they welcomed us so warmly. We got to do a parade, too,” said Nancy.

Momoland’s popularity in the Philippines has brought them success. Spotify named Momoland as the third most streamed K-pop artist in the country in 2018 while “BBoom Bboom” is Spotify’s fourth most streamed track on its K-pop Daebak Playlist.

Hyebin said they are also overwhelmed by the hot response from Filipino fans.

“We are also very curious about this question like why Momoland is so famous in the Philippines. I think it’s because of the music. The music is so fun. This could also be the reason why Filipino Merries are so into Momoland music. We hope that we’ll render you more exciting and hyper music,” she explained.

Momoland also achieved success in Korea. At the 2018 Soribada Best K-Music Awards last August, Momoland won a bonsang and at the 2018 Melon Music Awards last Dec. 1, they won the 1theK Performance Award.

They are very thankful for their success this year.

“We’re really grateful for the unexpected love and support for our songs ‘BBoom BBoom’ and ‘Baam’ as well. To make up for that, we’ll work harder and promise to come back again with better music and something that everyone can enjoy all together,” said Daisy.

JooE considers ‘BBoom BBoom’ as their best achievement in 2018, saying, “the most important and most interesting thing is that with ‘BBoom BBoom,’ with the amazing popularity, we were able to get to meet world Merries. Now we’re here in the Philippines to meet the Filipino Merries, too.”

For the Christmas season, Daisy said it will be work for them, too.

“We’ll be participating in year-end award shows. That’s probably what we will be doing,” she said.

For 2019, Momoland’s plan and New Year’s resolution is to further their career with new music.

“For our New Year’s resolution in 2019, we hope to deliver more diverse and exciting music to our Merries, to be more popular and reach out to more fans to other areas in the world,” said Hyebin.

According to Daisy, “First and foremost, we’ll have our fan meeting in Manila. That’s what we’re really looking forward to. We don’t have exact plans on what we’re doing next year but I’m sure that it will be packed with a lot of good news for our fans.”

Momoland’s Fan Meeting in Manila will have a pre-selling event on Dec. 15 at Ali Mall Activity Area. Official public ticket selling will start on Dec. 16 at Ticketnet outlets and online.
