K-pop boy bands iKON and BTS took home the daesang, or grand prizes, at the 33rd Golden Disc Awards (GDA) held for two days on Jan. 5 and 6 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul and aired on JTBC.
The first day honored winners in digital music category while the second day feted winners in the physical album category.
In the digital category, iKON bagged the Digital Song of the Year (Digital Daesang) for “Love Scenario,” their most successful song to date. “Love Scenario” topped music charts and swept South Korea last year.
For the Digital Song of the Year, according to the YG blog, “Love Scenario” got 17 out of 30 votes from the evaluations, and for the digital bonsang, or main prize, it received 25 votes.
The 10 winners of the digital bonsang, or main prize, are iKON, BTS, BLACKPINK, Big Bang, Bolbbalgan4, Chungha, Mamamoo, Momoland, Roy Kim and TWICE.
Wanna One took home the best boy band award while G-Friend bagged the best girl band award.
(G)I-DLE won the digital song rookie artist of the year and IZ*ONE and Stray Kids grabbed the album rookie artist of the year awards. The best hip hop award went to WINNER’s Mino and the best ballad was awarded to Im Chang Jung.
Wanna One and BLACKPINK won the Cosmopolitan Artist Awards and BTS took home the 2019 Global V Live Top 10 Best Artist award.
In the album category, BTS won Album of the Year (Disc Daesang) for “Love Yourself: Answer,” their second straight year to bag the award. Last year they won the award for “Love Yourself: Her.”
“We accept the awards on behalf of all Armies. 2018 was the year that we bore fruits through our hard work,” said BTS’ RM. according to Yonhap News.
The disc bonsang, or main prize, went to BTS, EXO, NCT 127, Wanna One, GOT7, SHINee’s Jonghyun, Monsta X, NU’EST W, Seventeen and TWICE.
BTS also won the Most Popular Star of U+ Idol Live and NetEase Most Popular Star awards. Paul Kim bagged the Best official soundtrack (OST) award.
The digital song and album of the year and other winners were selected based on sales (70 percent) and evaluation from 30 industry experts (30 percent).
