When needed, perhaps it’s possible for Christian Bautista to offer some words of encouragement to good friend Julie Anne San Jose, who just came from a breakup.
At the press conference of their upcoming concert series “The Sweetheart And The Balladeer: Fun Night Only,” Julie Anne was asked by entertainment reporters about her priorities this year.
“Time for myself and for my family also. I hope we would travel more this year,” she answered.
Christian butted in, asking if she would also consider going on solo trips, to which she answered “yes.” Prodded if she was ready to welcome a “special someone” in her life again, Julie Anne said “no.”
“I don’t think I’m ready for that,” she noted. “I just wanna focus on myself and to my work. I’m bettering myself, and my music. That’s the important thing for me this year.”
Those words evidently established that she and boyfriend of two years, Benjamin Alves, have called it quits. She further confirmed the matter in a separate interview.
“Yes! Since last year,” Julie Anne said about her being “single.”
“I’m okay, I’m good. Better,” the singer added.
Julie Anne also set the record straight: She and Benjamin did not remain friends.
Rumors about their breakup emerged late last year when eagled-eye netizens notice that they unfollowed each other’s Instagram account. Speculations further fueled when Julie Anne cut her hair shorter than usual.
Asked what her new hair style meant, Julie Anne simply said, “Brand new start, new beginnings, new work, new relationships, new friends, new opportunities and blessings.”
In contrast, Christian is happily in love with wife Kat Ramnani. The two exchanged wedding vows last Nov. 17 and the 37-year-old singer-actor is still on cloud nine over this new chapter in his life.
“We’re partners. It’s nice that whatever comes in our lives, we talked about it. We both decide on it. Being married means what will be beneficial to her, will also be beneficial for me,” he said.
Baby number one is not on the priority list now, he made clear.
“We want to be stable as husband and wife first. We will try to have a baby, maybe two years from now? Let’s see.”
On a different note, Julie Anne expressed excitement on working with Christian yet again.
The two shared the stage in a series of concerts last year, here and abroad.
“I don’t have any problems with Christian,” she said when asked about the qualities she likes about him.
Christian added, “We always get each other. We’re close now. We’re partners on stage and in life also. We’re very comfortable together so I think doing concerts like these will never be hard for us.”
Their upcoming concert’s repertoire consists of love and inspirational songs.
Joining them are Donita Nose and Super Tekla who both will leave the audience laughing at their funny antics.
The first leg of “The Sweetheart And The Balladeer: Fun Night Only” concert series is on Jan. 27 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. Treating her fans with sweet voice is a special guest performer, “The Clash” Grand Champion Golden Cañedo.
The second run is on Feb. 10 at The Atrium, Limketkai Center, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro, with “The Clash” alumnus Josh Adornado as guest performer.
With many new artists emerging in the industry, does Christian feel threatened?
“No,” he shot back.
Artists should not think about rivalries, he explained, saying all have a common goal: To entertain.
“Let me put it this way: There’s bad competition, there’s good rivalry,” he said. “When young guys sing their hearts out, it’s the time I become challenged. I don’t want to beat them, but I want to perform better as well.”
Golden, on her part, said she is pressured to share the stage with the two.
Christian assured the young singer she will do great as long as she gives her 100 percent in every performance.
“You just need to love what you’re doing. Be grateful for your talent, find people who believe in you, who loves to work with you and the rest will follow,” Julie Anne added.
