“Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT)” 2016 grand champion Power Duo impressed by their talent shown on “Asia’s Got Talent,” Thursday.
Real life couple Anjanette and Gervin, the duo from Rizal, wowed the judges with their signature acrobatic contemporary dance moves. They advanced to the next round with three yeses tucked under their belts.
“The acrobatic moves you were doing, the level of difficulty was so high, but at the same time, the performance was so graceful, elegant, and beautiful,” Jay Park said.
Speaking of Park, another Filipino act, comedian Maja Root, dedicated his lipsync performance to the Korean American singer, describing him as “number one oppa.”
Unfortunately, Park, as well as fellow judge David Forster pressed their red buzzers. The latter said that while the performance was “entertaining,” it was also a “disaster.”
Meanwhile, Filipina singer Meleena took the stage and sang a soulful rendition of “Fallin’” by Alicia Keys.
“That was such a beautiful performance because you made it your own,” judge Anggun said.
She got yes votes from Anggun and Park. Foster, on the other hand, commented that the performance “didn’t move me.”
Since 2015, a number of Filipino acts dominated the competition.
Shadow play troupe El Gamma Penumbra was hailed as grand champion in the same year, with singer Gerphil Flores placing third.
Dance group DM-X Comvaleñoz and beatboxer Neil Rey Garcia Llanes, placed runner-up and third place, respectively in the 2017 edition.
