Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray was all smiles when she confessed that she is no longer in a relationship and will focus on her Miss Universe journey.
In an episode of ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Confessions, Catriona responded to a question she picked from a fishbowl on how she manages to balance her love life and career as Miss Universe.
“Well, it’s all about balance. Whatever works for your personal life but for me, wala akong love life ngayon,” Catriona responded during the grand homecoming at the ABS-CBN headquarters Friday.
“So I’m really focused on my Miss Universe journey, on being the best global representative that I can be, and also being a representative for the Philippines through and through,” she added.
The last question asked: “Sa inyong palagay kailan naging tama ang mali?” (On your opinion, when does the right become wrong?)
“[Y]ou always have to make yourself learn from something. In everything that happens in your life, there’s always a lesson to be learned [and] that’s where you grow as a person and you will just learn from the experience to become a better person,” the 25-year-old beauty queen answered.
Gray, in an interview Friday night with Boy Abunda, confirmed anew that she and Bondad have already called it quits.
“Hindi na po (not anymore),” said Gray when Abunda asked Gray if she and Bondad were still in a relationship.
When asked who made the first move to split, Gray said: “Kasi we were having problems even before the pageant. We weren’t on speaking terms so much.”
Gray said that Bondad still watched the Miss Universe competition in Bangkok, Thailand in December 2018 despite having problems in their relationship.
“He did. But it was really hard going to the competition with that happening all at the same time. But I had to keep reminding myself this is a once in a lifetime opportunity I need t give my best of why am I here. I wanna represent the Philippines well. So it was a struggle you know but I see him doing so well now,” the Filipino-Australian beauty queen said.
Gray did not give details of their break-up. “I don’t want to talk about it that much because I’m private and I really respect him and I am grateful for the time that I had with him. I just wish him the best.”
“When you’re together for so long and you start at a very young age, you have grown whether that be in your personal, or your career, or whatever. Sometimes you just outgrow each other in a way. If we were meant to be together, maybe it will happen in the future,” she said.
Asked if she still loves Bondad, Gray said: “I am always grateful for the time that I shared with him ’cause he has seen me through much and I’ve seen him through much. We both supported each other. It just didn’t work out.”
Gray, 25, said that the most important lesson learned in her relationship with the Filipino-German model is “the need to communicate.”
The beauty queen who based in New York during her reign as Miss Universe said that she is “not on speaking terms with him at the moment.” She added: “I think we are both figuring out our things.”
Gray said that she wanted to stay single during her Miss Universe reign.
“I want to. I’ve never really had a chance. Being in a six-year relationship from the age of 18, I’ve never been a young adult especially growing a young Christian din in that season of singleness. And I think it’s really important as an individual because you need to know want you want or who you are, in establishing your identity as your own person, and I just want to take that time. Being a Miss Universe for a year is an amazing experience,” she said.
Gray said that after the break-up, she is not ready for a new relationship. “I just wanna be able to grow in that kind of season as Miss Universe. I don’t feel ready now.”
On Saturday, Catriona will hold her second homecoming parade at the Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City, home of the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant, and will headline an all-star show called “Raise Your Flags” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum the next day.
