Miss Universe Catriona Gray appeared not sold to the idea on renaming the Philippines to Maharlika.
“If it’s not broke don’t fix it!” said Gray when sought to comment on the idea of renaming our country during a visit to the PLDT office in Makati City Friday morning.
In February 11, President Duterte said that he is open to renaming Philippines to Maharlika as initially planned by the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
Gray also reacted to the statement of Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo who said that the beauty queen may have been misinformed about the lowering of minimum criminal age of criminal responsibility and should be “educated” about the matter.
The Filipino-Australian beauty queen said that the country should “readjust” its focus and determine why children commit crimes.
Reacting to Panelo’s statement, Gray said: “I would love to talk to them first hand and hear both sides and all sides of the issue so that I will have a deeper understanding of it.”
Gray also thanked the people who came to the parade in Pasay City-Manila-Makati City to cheer for her.
“Philippines! Thank you for celebrating with me! This is a day I’ll never forget, mahal ko kayo sobra sobra,” said Gray on Instagram.
During her visit to PLDT, Gray received a warm welcome from PLDT Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, officials and employees of the company. Fans cheered as their cameras clicked upon the arrival of the beauty queen.
It was announced that Gray will become an endorser for Smart Communications.
PLDT has made it their commitment to sponsor major Binibining Pilipinas events and has been engaging most of the beauty queens and their respective courts as PLDT HOME brand ambassadors.
In 2017 when the Miss Universe pageant was held in the Philippines for the first time, PLDT HOME Fibr was at the forefront of the international event.
The PLDT and the queens have both been reaching out to Filipinos from all walks of life spreading cheers and goodwill all over the country.
Andrew L. Santos, PLDT First Vice President and Head, Consumer Marketing, said: “PLDT supports world-class Filipino talents and we take pride in the achievements of outstanding Filipinas like Miss Universe Catriona Gray. Together with Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc., we continue to support them in their mission to bring pride to the country and help uplift the lives of Filipinos through service and nation-building.”
Today, Saturday, Feb. 23, Gray will hold her second parade at the Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 24, Gray will spearhead a special show called “Raise Your Flag” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
