K-pop boy band CNBLUE member Lee Jonghyun admitted viewing illicitly recorded sex videos by singer Jung Joon-young and making inappropriate comments in the “KakaoTalkgate” scandal that has rocked the entertainment industry in South Korea.
The expose of the chat room messages has implicated several K-pop stars including Big Bang’s Seungri, FT Island leader Choi Jong-hoon and Highlight’s Junhyung.
Jung Joon-young is facing charges of recording sex videos of women without their consent and uploading them on chat rooms.
Jonghyun, who is currently fulfilling his military service, initially denied viewing the sex videos but admitted the accusations on Friday after TV station SBS revealed chat messages that implicated him in the scandal.
In one conversation, reported the Korea JoongAng Daily, Jonghyun asked Jung Joon-young to “Give me some girls” to which the latter replied “Who do you want.”
“Anyone you haven’t [expletive] would be better, but any pretty [expletive]. Don’t you have any young and pretty and nice [expletive]? Easy to play with,” Jonghyun said.
“Lee Jong-hyun had complied with the police, who visited his unit on Tuesday afternoon. He informed [us] of his initial position, because he had not found anything regarding the illegal videos in the one-on-one conversation he had with Jung Joon-young showed to him by the police,” FNC Entertainment, CNBLUE’s agency, explained.
It added, “We had to publish the statement based on his memories. We had no intention of hiding the truth or covering his wrongdoings. We are fully aware that watching the videos or having inappropriate conversations deserves criticism. We send our apologies to everyone who has been hurt and were disappointed by the immoral utterances that were made without remorse.”
CNBLUE fans have demanded that Jonghyun be removed from the idol group because of his admission.
Seungri and Jung Joon-young underwent questioning by the police on March 14 regarding the scandal. Seungri is accused of providing women to potential investors in his company. He has since announced his retirement from the entertainment industry.
FNC Entertainment said Jong-hoon will leave FT Island and retire from the entertainment industry after chat messages allegedly showed that there was a cover-up after he was caught driving under the influence in 2016. He is also accused of spreading videos and photos.
The messages allegedly showed that Jong-hoon allegedly asked a police officer to cover up the DUI incident so it won’t get leaked to the media.
Meanwhile, Junhyung left Highlight after he admitted watching Jung Joon-young’s sex videos.
