PH model finishes 2nd in Miss Eco International 2019 in Egypt

A Filipino-American beauty queen nearly won a back-to-back pageant title when she finished second in the Miss Eco International 2019 pageant held at the Almasa Capital Theater in Cairo, Egypt last Friday.

Miss Philippines Maureen Montagne won 1st runner in the beauty pageant, one year after Philippine representative Cynthia Thomalla was crowned Miss Eco International 2018.

“This journey has been so incredible and I’m thankful for each and every one of you who has supported me along the way. No matter what happens I will leave Egypt full of love, light, and new found purpose,” wrote Montagne on Instagram.

Suheyn Cipriani of Peru won the Miss Eco International crown. Other winners were Miss USA, 2nd runner-up; Miss Ukraine, 3rd runner-up; and Miss Malaysia, 4th runner-up.

In her bio for the Miss USA contest, it stated that Montagne loves writing. She’s modeled since the age of five and has worked in many countries. Growing up, she was a shy kid, but modeling and pageantry have helped her come out of her shell.

She played basketball all throughout high school and is a huge Phoenix Suns fan! She loves hiking, dance, and watching her favorite guilty pleasure show, Dance Moms. She has danced for many years now and has taken classes for ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop.

Montagne, 25, has said that she is hands-on with her environmental advocacy which is a major factor in winning the pageant.

“This year I have been focusing on cleaning up the Philippines, specifically our water sources. I’m proud of our efforts with rebuilding Boracay and I have been involved with the Manila Bay Project and have been working on other local projects as well,” she said.

The Miss Eco International pageant is the first international contest for Montagne. Earlier, she competed in Miss USA 2015 pageant where she placed in the top 15 and Miss World America 2017 contest where she won first runner-up.

Following her stint in Miss Eco International pageant, Montagne said that she wanted to focus on TV hosting and acting.

“I would like to focus on becoming an actress and TV host. I have always had a love for acting and would eventually like to host a travel or fashion show in the future. I will still continue modeling as well and hope to travel more. I am excited about some international projects in the works and I can’t wait to share them with you when the time comes,” she added.
