There will be no swallowing strange stones for Kathryn Bernardo despite fans clamoring she takes on the Darna mantle after Liza Soberano backed out.
“I don’t think it’s for me,” Kathryn said in an interview.
“I think Darna is such an iconic role. She represents women empowerment and I believe many girls dream of becoming like her. But the role is not for me. I mean, just because you want the role doesn’t mean it fits you.”
So, who fits it then?
“I imagine Darna as someone a bit older than me, someone who’s more woman.”
Drop a name, we coaxed. But Kathryn just smiled.
“It’s no joke to play that role. It’s really hard to follow in the footsteps of Ate Angel Locsin,” she said. “I feel like the character is too much to carry for me that’s why whoever the next Darna is, rest assured she has my support.”
Liza is no longer doing the movie because of a finger injury she sustained while filming a fight scene on “Bagani” last year.
Well, Kathryn knows all about the hardships particularly as her last teleserye, “La Luna Sangre,” also required much from her.
According to Kathryn, she got bruised a lot back then, which was unavoidable as actors aren’t given enough time to train unlike professional athletes or stuntmen.
This is the reason Kathryn admires Angel who does her own stunts no matter how dangerous.
“Hands down to her, it’s really not easy doing action,” Kathryn lauded.
On other matters, Kathryn, at a young age, is into healthy living. Aside from watching what she eats, the actress is into sports and exercise.
The actress customizes the workout.
She noted that just because others are into this or that, she should follow suit, no. Kathryn said it’s all about what works for you.
She goes to the gym with friends. Kathryn revealed that she’s the kind of girl who prefers doing the hard work with someone. She also likes talking to them between sets.
“I really find exercise more enjoyable when I’m with someone as I easily get bored when I’m alone,” she said, relating that her boyfriend, actor Daniel Padilla, is her gym buddy sometimes.
Kathryn also has a personal trainer who guides her and helps her avoid getting injuries and into accidents.
“I chose the right people to help me. They’re the ones who push me when I’m tired and not up for or too lazy to exercise. ”
Kathryn shared investing in nice fitness clothes motivates her to go to the gym.
The actress does a lot of cardio, she’s into cycling and her squats and deadlifts are spot on.
Sounds time consuming, we pointed out.
“You really need to give it time and effort,” she laughed.
Say, has she ever felt insecure of her body, we asked.
“Yeah, actually up to now. But then I’m thankful for what I have, it’s just that it’s hard to maintain this physique,” she said.
Beauty tips 101
Aside from having healthy body, Kathryn is into makeup even when she’s doing intense activities. That’s why homegrown brand Happy Skin collaborated with her again to come up with products for those with active lifestyle.
Her latest cosmetic venture is a collection of products that fit every woman’s active lifestyle – whether it’s working out, going to work, or anything in between that need that extra help to keep them fresh and looking their best all day long.
What she likes about the products is that the shades suit both fair and morena skin.
Kathryn was hands-on with the collaboration, revealing she really tried everything and gave her honest feedback for the company to improve their product.
The actress divulged that even up to choice of packaging and color, she was part of it.
What’s her makeup hack?
“Don’t be afraid to combine your products.”
And when applying makeup, Kathryn prefers using her fingers than a brush, so she could blend the makeup more thoroughly.
It takes Kathryn all of 10 minutes to complete her everyday look.
Kathryn is excited about her projects this year as these all promote “personal growth.”
“This year is about taking care of myself, overcoming my insecurities, accepting projects so unlike me. I’m leaving my comfort zone,” she declared.
“It’s okay to grow. I encourage girls to not be afraid to go out of the box. Just because you feel uncomfortable at first doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Sometimes that’s how you feel at first, because you start growing from there.”
Just recently, Kathryn posted this open letter to fans online on her birthday.
“So many people have so many expectations about what it really means to enter womanhood, specifically about how one should dress, talk, or behave in general. I don’t know about any of these things, but I do know I want to define womanhood on my own terms. For me, it means being able to move at my own pace, feeling more comfortable in my own skin, embracing my flaws, and not having to explain to anyone why I am what I am,” she wrote.
