Even before becoming Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray was already a “superhero” in the eyes of the underprivileged kids in Tondo.
She has helped them see silver lining by working with non-government organization Young Focus Philippines, which provides free and accessible education to Filipino children.
So, it’s not surprising to see Catriona’s name on top of the list created by fans as possible new lead actress for “Darna” movie remake. Note that Liza Soberano recently backed out of the planned Star Cinema adaptation of the Pinay superhero due to finger injury.
At a recent local fast food chain event, the beauty queen was asked whether she’s willing to portray Darna, if and when offered.
However, Catriona did not give a direct answer. She instead focused on the idea of trying out acting in the future.
“Am I open for acting po? Yes, I’m open to every opportunity that may come my way,” she said. “Acting is a field that I have not yet had any experience in but I’m a very eager learner.”
Again, without mentioning Darna, she hinted: “And if the opportunity came to auditioning for a certain role, I would very much be open to it.”
Fresh as always
Catriona is having the time of her life as reigning Miss Universe.
She is now back in New York to fulfill her duties.
“I will be back in the Philippines again by June,” she promised.
During Catriona’s homecoming parade in Quezon City last February, a piece of her Mikimoto crown fell off as a result of her “dancing.”
The ever bubbly gal said it is now in the “hands of the master” and “it would be back very soon.”
The Miss Universe 2018 pageant is long over, but many people, especially Filipinos, still aren’t over Catriona’s iconic lava walk and slow mo turn.
And if you happen to be on social media most of the time, you’ll see a lot of parodies of that signature walk.
“It’s just amazing how people do their take on it. I’m really glad especially there’s no right and wrong in doing. Seeing people making their own interpretation of it makes me really overwhelmed,” she said.
We can’t help but notice how Catriona manages to stay fresh despite her tight schedule. It turns out she only has two “secrets.”
First, she believes happiness makes her glow.
“I’m happy because I love the job that I do. I’m a happy person and I’m surrounded with amazing people. They help me to be in high spirits,” she shared.
Second is sleep.
“I don’t follow, like, a strict routine (or regimen). I just sleep as much as I can and stay hydrated all the time.”
The Binibining Pilipinas organization is on the lookout for a new batch of queens who will represent the Philippines in the international stage.
It’s really a tough competition this year especially that the ladies are pressured to replicate the success of Catriona in the Miss Universe stage.
“I’m so excited for them,” the 25-year-old Filipina-Australian said.
How about giving them tips, we asked.
“Well, my tip for them is to allow yourself to shine and feel the most beautiful you. I really understand the situation and the pressure that have been going around you, like one would tell you should wear this,” she explained. “But remember to do what you like, what do you think will make you beautiful. Then go out on stage and shine. See the journey from what it is, enjoy the once in a lifetime experience.”
Catriona has been tapped as newest ambassador of Jollibee’s Jolly Twirl product.
She endorses it with her own signature twirl as seen on it’s latest campaign video.
The beauty queen recalled her fondest memory with the local fast food chain.
“When I was younger I always travel to the Philippines during my school holidays to visit my family. Being an only child, I am usually with my cousins and we go to Jollibee in the province. I eat spaghetti, something I didn’t experience back in Australia,” she said.
Catriona added, “Summer’s upon us and with the slow melt formula that means you can enjoy the jolly twirl more and enjoy it longer under the summer heat.”
