BLACKPINK tops 2019 Korea Power Celebrity 40 list



K-pop girl group BLACKPINK topped the 2019 Korea Power Celebrity 40 list released by Forbes Korea magazine.

The list, composed of 40 influential people who are active in film, drama, entertainment, music and sports, covered the period March 2018 to February 2019 and selected from 150 candidates.

This year, four criteria were used to select the list: media exposure, broadcasting activities, income and SNS (social network service) or social media.

Media exposure was based on news articles; broadcasting referred to domestic activities such as drama and entertainment programs; income surveyed movies, sales, performances, salaries, music charts and advertising fees; and SNS measured the number of followers and subscribers on social media channels like YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and V Live.

In the overall top 10, BLACKPINK ranked first followed by BTS, Wanna One, Wanna One’s Kang Daniel, Red Velvet, comedienne Park Na Rae, trot singer Hong Jin Young, actress Han Ji Min, football player Son Heung Min,and EXO.

BLACKPINK ranked first in social media, second in income, 11th in media exposure and 15th in broadcasting. They were not on the list last year.

BTS, which ranked first overall on the list in 2018, topped income and media exposure, second in SNS and 39th in local broadcasting.

Wanna One, which grabbed overall second place last year, ranked third in media exposure, 32nd in broadcasting, third in income and ninth in social media while Kang Daniel is 13th in media, 17th in broadcasting, 15th in income and ninth in SNS.

Celebrities ranked 11th to 20th are “Reply 1988” star Ryu Jun-yeol, comedian-MC Yoo Jae-suk, actor Bae Jung-nam, singer IU, actor and TV personality Yoo Byung-jae, AOA’s Seolhyun, TV host Jun Hyun-moo, and actors Park Bogum, Lee Byung-hun and Jung Hae-in.

Ranking 21st to 30th are girl group TWICE, actor TWICE, actor Yoo Yeon-seok, actress Kim Tae Ri, singer Sunmi, actor Lee Seung-gi, Mamamoo’s Hwasa, Girls’ Generation, Mamamoo, actress Jo Bo-ah and actor Park Seo-joon.

In the 31st to 40th places are actress Son Ye-jin, Apink’s Na-Eun, comedienne and TV personality Lee Young-ja, actress Han Hye-jin, singer Park Joon-hyung, chef Baek Jong-won, GOT7, actor Ha Jung-woo, baseball player Ryu Hyun-jin and actor Ju Ji-hoon.

Based on income, the top 10 are BTS, BLACKPINK, Wanna One, Son Heung Min, IU, Ha Jung-woo, Red Velvet, Girls’ Generation, Park Seo-joon and Lee Seung-gi.

Korean celebrities in the top 10 in social media include BLACKPINK, BTS, Wanna One, Kang Daniel, EXO, IU, TWICE, Girls’ Generation and GOT7.
